Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear ABC,
I hope you are doing well in your busy lifestyle. I am writing this letter to organise an event to celebrate college reunion with all our friends and classmates from universities. Next month on november 10 we will complete ten years of college life.
I think this is best time to organise an event in our college because all students will have reading vacation and nobody will disturb during an event. we should inculde dance and acting performances with food and drinks so everybody will enjoy and exchange some talks and will remember some old memories which held during our school time.
I think some entry fees is compuslory to cover food and drink costs and rest of the amount we can donate to universities. this way college will get some donation and we all friends get chance for get together.
I need your help to organise an event because i dont have enough time to finish everything by single hand. so would you like to arrange decoration and music then i will take permission from college and collect everyones contact information to inform about an event.
I am waiting to hear from you as soon as possible.
your,
Xyz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you propose a reunion with performances and refreshments, explain that it would bring classmates together and revive shared memories, and ask your friend to handle decoration and music. The donation idea also gives the event a useful purpose. These relevant details make the purpose clear, although some points are not fully developed: for example, “all students will have reading vacation” is not explained, and the benefit of donating money to the college could be linked more clearly to the celebration. The request for help is specific, but a little more detail about how you would coordinate the tasks would strengthen the letter. The response covers the task well overall, with some ideas needing fuller explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed event, explain the fees and donation, and then ask your friend for help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “because” and “so” help show relationships between ideas. Some connections are less clear or repetitive, however. The sentence about the college’s “reading vacation” does not clearly explain why this timing is suitable, while “this way” refers broadly to the preceding points. The repeated use of “and” also makes some sentences feel like lists rather than smoothly connected ideas. Use clearer transitions and make references explicit—for instance, state directly how the event and donation benefit classmates and the college.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its purpose, including “celebrate,” “performances,” “entry fees,” “donate,” and “decoration.” These choices show some range beyond very basic wording. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision: “inculde,” “compuslory,” and “everyones” are misspelled, while “exchange some talks” and “memories which held” are unnatural expressions. “College life” and “school time” are also used in ways that may blur whether you mean college or school memories. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise phrases such as “share stories” and “memories from our college days” would make the message clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and a request joined to your own planned tasks. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. For example, “we will complete ten years of college life” uses an awkward tense construction; “all students will have reading vacation” is missing an article or clearer grammatical phrasing; and “I don’t have enough time to finish everything by single hand” has errors in the phrase structure. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at the start of sentences and in “your, Xyz.” Practise accurate articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, and use a conventional closing such as “Yours,” followed by your name.
