Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Manish

I hope you are doing well. It has been ten years since we graduate from college, and i think its high time to organize a reunion with all our college friends and classmates.

I would like to organize the one-day reunion party at our college campus, followed by dinner at a nearby resturant. we could invite all our classmates , college friends and professors, shared a old memories, take photogrpahs and arrange some music and fun games.

I beleive this would be wonderful way to celebrate becuase we have been a busy schedule as for our jobs and personal lives for many years. This event would give us chance to reconnect with old friends, remember college days and strengthen our friendships.

I need your help in contacting our classmates and collecting their phone numbers. It would also be great if you could help me in book the venue and manage the food arrangements.we can divide the expense equally among everyone attending.

Please let me know what you think about this idea. I am looking fordward to meeting everyone again.

Best wishes,

Dhairya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three requested points: you propose a reunion on campus followed by dinner, explain that it would help everyone reconnect after busy years, and ask Manish to contact classmates, help book the venue, and arrange food. The friendly opening and closing also suit a letter to a college friend. The event idea is clear, but some details are only briefly listed—for example, the activities are named without explaining how the day might be organised, and the reason for choosing this format could be developed further. To strengthen the response, add a little more specific support, such as a suggested date or how the campus setting would make the reunion meaningful.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it moves from the reunion proposal to the reasons for it, then to the help required, and ends with a request for a reply. Paragraphing makes these stages easy to identify, and phrases such as “This event would give us” help connect the explanation to the proposal. Some links within sentences are less controlled, however. The list of activities in the second paragraph shifts between forms (“shared a old memories, take photogrpahs and arrange”), and the transition from booking the venue to dividing expenses is abrupt. Use parallel structures in lists and add a brief linking phrase to show how each practical detail relates to organising the event.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its purpose, including “reunion,” “reconnect,” “strengthen our friendships,” and “food arrangements.” These choices show some range beyond basic wording. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “resturant,” “photogrpahs,” “beleive,” and “fordward,” while phrases such as “organize the one-day reunion party” and “we have been a busy schedule” are not natural collocations. These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they limit precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “organise a one-day reunion” and “we have been busy with work and personal commitments.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the explanation beginning “This event would give us…” and the conditional suggestion “It would also be great if you could…”. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “since we graduate” should use the past form “graduated,” and “give us chance” needs an article. In “help me in book the venue,” the verb pattern should be “help me book” or “help me to book.” There is also a faulty list after “we could invite,” where the verbs do not follow a consistent structure. Review tense consistency and verb patterns, and proofread punctuation and capitalisation.
