Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manel,
I hope you are doing well. As you know It's been many years since we left college and since then we never meet our collueges. So I was thinking why we don't we organise a party to celebrate our anniversary together.
I'm thinking about the new restaurant that opens in our town. It offers a discounts for large group. Also it has a nice menu with varity of options such as meat and seafood. In addition there is a large balcony with cozy sofa where we can relax, enjoy the music and share our news.
I believe it's a quite area and we won't need much effort to organise it, specaily that our anniversary is next week so we don't have much time.
Any way, I need your help to contact all of our collueges. If it possible can you create a whatapp group and add us all to it? This way we can discuss the arregements and agree at what time we should meet.
Thanks for your efforts.
Kind regards.
Lamia.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you propose a restaurant celebration, explain its group discount and comfortable setting, and ask Manel to contact classmates through a WhatsApp group. These details make the plan relevant and practical. The explanation of why this is the best way to celebrate is less fully developed: the restaurant’s features are listed, but you could connect them more clearly to the anniversary, such as how the relaxed setting would help everyone reconnect after ten years. The request for help is clear, though adding a second specific task—such as checking who can attend or confirming a booking—would make it more complete. The letter’s purpose and friendly tone are clear throughout, with some ideas developed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the reunion, describe the proposed venue, explain the timing, and then make your request. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Also,” “In addition,” and “This way” help connect details. Some connections are less smooth or precise. For example, “I believe it’s a quite area” follows the venue description but does not clearly explain how this supports the plan, and “Any way” shifts to the request rather abruptly. The sequence is understandable, but more explicit transitions between the venue’s advantages, the short planning time, and the help needed would make the progression more natural and cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the plan and include some useful descriptive choices, such as “large group,” “variety of options,” “balcony,” and “share our news.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “collueges,” “specaily,” “arregements,” and “cozy sofa,” which should be “colleagues,” “especially,” “arrangements,” and, more naturally, “comfortable sofas.” Some phrases are also imprecise: “a quite area” appears to mean “a quiet area,” while “a discounts” is not the correct form. The range is adequate for this familiar topic, but checking spelling and choosing more natural collocations would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “It offers…” and the conditional request “If it possible can you create…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “since then we never meet” needs a suitable tense, such as “we haven’t met,” and “why we don’t we organise” has an incorrect question structure. Articles and agreement also need attention in “a discounts” and “it’s a quite area”; the latter should be “it’s a quiet area.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries are sometimes awkward, as in “As you know It's…”. More accurate control of verb forms, articles, and question structures would strengthen the letter.
