Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Alex,

Hope you are doing well. I am writing a letter to inform you that I am planning to organise a small party with friends and clasemates to celebrate our college memories.

Now it is ten years since we left college but still I miss you all. The time which we spent together always reminds me the best period of my life. However, I would like to organize the party in a banquet hall from 9.00 AM - 1.00 pm on Saturday with a proper arrangements of refreshments and lunch where everyone feels like a home.

I believe that morning time is best to celebrate it because on weekends everyone is less busy and they can come without any other stress. Furthermore, there are almost 30 friends I am planning to invite in the party. I feel so excited, when we all discuss the reminsince memories.

If you do not mind, i need your help to orgamize everything with me. Please if you have a time you can come one day before and support me to organize the party. Moreover, I can share the list where I wrote every information you can check let me know if there is any changes need.

Takecare,

Yours lovingly,

Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you propose a party in a banquet hall, explain that weekends may be less busy and that you want to revisit shared memories, and ask Alex to help with preparations. The purpose and friendly relationship are clear, and the specific time and approximate number of guests make the plan concrete. However, the reason for choosing a morning celebration is only briefly explained, and the request for help could be more precise about which tasks Alex should handle. The reference to refreshments and lunch also leaves the event arrangements slightly unclear. More development of these details would make the letter feel more fully planned and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall shape: an opening that introduces the plan, paragraphs giving the event details and reasons, and a closing request. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and links such as “However” and “Furthermore” help connect points. The organisation is not always smooth, though: “However” does not clearly signal a contrast, and the sentence about inviting 30 friends shifts abruptly to excitement about discussing memories. The final request combines several actions in a long sentence, making the sequence of checking the list and suggesting changes less clear. Use paragraphing to separate the event plan, its benefits, and Alex’s specific responsibilities, and choose linking words that express the relationship between ideas accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main plan, including “banquet hall,” “refreshments,” and “memories,” and the tone is appropriately warm for a friend. There is some variety, but several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “proper arrangements of refreshments,” “feels like a home,” and “reminsince memories” are not natural or clear expressions. “Organise” and “party” are repeated, and spelling slips such as “clasemates” and “orgamize” are noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding formal-sounding phrases; for example, describe the food and venue directly and use a clear phrase for reminiscing about college.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause in “because on weekends everyone is less busy” and a conditional request beginning “If you do not mind.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “I am planning to organise” is followed by “with a proper arrangements,” where the article and noun form do not agree; “if you have a time” has an unnecessary article; and “let me know if there is any changes need” has problems with agreement and sentence structure. Capitalisation of “i” and punctuation around clauses also need attention. Check articles, singular/plural agreement, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a complete, natural structure.
