Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Simran,
I hope you are doing well. It's a long time we haven't meet each other. I am writing this letter to inform you about that I am organizing an event where I have invited all my friends and classmates from college.
Firstly, I am planning to make this event as a reunion anniversary where we will meet each other and remember our good old days. I booked a hotel for this event where no one can reuion our celebration. I am also planning a stage performance where each of our friends and classmates will say about each other this activity helps us to remember how we guys do fun at our college time.
Secondly, I want a help from you to contact some of our friends as I have lost their contacts.
I am really exicted to see you at the event.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes,
Ayush

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the main purpose by proposing a college reunion, explaining that it would let everyone meet and remember their college days, and asking Simran to help contact classmates whose details you have lost. These are relevant points, and the friendly opening and closing suit a letter to a friend. However, the celebration plan is not fully clear: “I booked a hotel” does not explain what the event there will involve, and the reason that “no one can reuion our celebration” is difficult to understand. The request for help is also brief; specify how Simran might find or contact people, and perhaps ask for help with another practical arrangement. Developing these details would make the response more complete and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from an opening to the event plan, a request for help, and a closing. “Firstly” and “Secondly” signal the main points, and the paragraphs help separate them. However, the progression within the event paragraph is not always smooth: the hotel, stage performance, and remembering college activities are introduced without clearly explaining how they fit together. The sentence beginning “I am also planning a stage performance” contains several ideas that run together, making the relationship between the performance and the purpose less clear. Use shorter, more clearly linked sentences and refer explicitly to the event’s activities and benefits. This would make the organisation feel less mechanical while preserving the clear overall arrangement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the basic plan and maintain a friendly tone, including “reunion anniversary,” “stage performance,” and “lost their contacts.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or spellings make meaning unclear. “No one can reuion our celebration” appears to use the wrong word, while “do fun” and “at our college time” are unnatural expressions. There are also spelling errors such as “exicted” and “reuion.” Choose more natural phrases for a reunion, shared memories, and contacting classmates, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you explain the event and its appeal without changing the warm, personal style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You communicate through a mix of simple sentences and some longer structures, and the overall message remains understandable. However, errors occur in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “It's a long time we haven't meet each other” needs a more accurate tense and structure, while “I want a help from you” uses an unnecessary article. In “each of our friends and classmates will say about each other,” the verb pattern is incomplete, and the following ideas are joined without clear punctuation. Practise accurate present perfect forms and verb patterns, and divide longer sentences so each clause is complete. These changes would improve control while allowing you to retain some complex sentence forms.
