Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mohit,

I am writing in regard to invite you for the reunion of our class friends at my place.

Hello! hope you are doing great in your personal and professional endeavours. Its been long time that we have not seen each other therefore I am planning a party at my house for the meet up of all our friends from college. All the preprations has been done such as DJ booking, catering and decorations. The event will be on October 30 and we can also celebrate Diwali together.

Its always best to celebrate these special occassions with our loved ones and nowadays we all occupied in our work life. Eventually, to get some time off from the hectic schedhule and to spend quality time along with the friends, I arranged this event. Furthermore, there would be games in the celebration likewise truth and dare that will remind us about the golden memories from that integral part of our academic journey.

I would be really appreciated if you could come 1 week earlier to help me with the preprations. Actually, I want you to join me with the door to door invitations because I want it make it extra special and memorable. Furthermore, I am still unsure about the gifting owing to that I require you to help me in organising presents according to their choices. I am eagerly waiting to see you soon.

Please pay me regards to your mother.

Best Regards,

Jaspreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you propose a reunion at your home, explain that it will let busy friends reconnect and share memories, and ask Mohit to help with invitations and gifts. The October 30 date and Diwali celebration add useful detail, while the examples of games and preparations make the plan concrete. Your purpose and friendly relationship with the recipient remain clear throughout. To strengthen the response further, develop the reason for choosing a home celebration a little more specifically, and clarify how the proposed activities or arrangements will suit the whole group. Overall, the required information is covered and supported, although some explanation remains general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the reunion, explains its value, then sets out the help needed before closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “therefore,” “Furthermore,” and “Actually” help connect ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely; for example, “Furthermore” is repeated, and “likewise” is awkward before the example of truth or dare. The opening also moves quickly from the invitation to general greetings and then to event details. Use a wider range of natural links and make references between sentences more direct, so the reader can follow the plan without noticing the connecting language.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range for a friendly reunion letter, including “hectic schedule,” “quality time,” “academic journey,” and “memorable.” These choices help convey the occasion and its purpose, and the meaning is generally clear. Some less common expressions show ambition but are not always natural or precise: “integral part of our academic journey” sounds overly formal here, while “gifting” and “door to door invitations” are awkward choices. There are also spelling errors such as “preprations,” “occassions,” and “schedhule.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations suited to an informal letter, and proofread spelling; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including explanations with “therefore” and “because,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “All the preparations has been done” needs subject–verb agreement and a more suitable passive form; “I would be really appreciated” should be “I would really appreciate it”; and “I want it make it extra special” is missing “to.” The opening “hope you are doing great” also needs a subject, and “Its been long time” needs an apostrophe and an article. Review these patterns and check each sentence for a complete subject and correctly formed verb.
