Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Rosy,

I hope that you are doing good. I'm writing this letter to inform you about our10 years anniversary party which I'd like to organize on December.

I'd like to plan a memorial party to remind us how fun our school days are, with all the challenges and difficulties we encoutered. The event be during the day to ensure that the environment is conducive and safe for everyone. However, there are a lot of activities that will be carried out on that day such as quiz, football, and dancing competition with a good price for the winner.

I believe that it's a good way to bring us together after serval year of being apart. Additionally, most of our class mates love playing football. So, this game will help them to exercise more and burn calories.

I'd like you to contribute in the organizing the venue for our event as you are working as an event planner. Furthermore, I want you to suggest the meal which will be prepared on that day.

Speak soon.

Best wishes,

Mary

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you propose a daytime reunion with activities, explain that it would bring classmates together and let them enjoy football, and ask Rosy to help with the venue and meal. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. The explanation of why this format is suitable is less fully developed, however: the safety point is asserted without explaining what makes a daytime event safer, and the activities are listed rather than linked to the anniversary. The phrase “memorial party” may also suggest a solemn occasion rather than a celebration, which could confuse your intended event. Clarify the type of gathering and extend the reasons with a specific example to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the anniversary, describes the proposed event, gives reasons, and then asks for help. Paragraph breaks support this progression, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “Furthermore” help connect points. Some connections are less natural or precise, though. “However” introduces activities that do not contrast with the daytime plan, while “So” makes the link between classmates liking football and the benefit of exercise somewhat abrupt. The request for help is understandable but could be separated into clearer, parallel actions. Use connectors that show the exact relationship between ideas, and make each paragraph’s purpose more distinct to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a personal letter, including relevant terms such as “organize,” “activities,” “venue,” and “event planner.” The vocabulary generally communicates your plans, and “contribute” and “conducive” show attempts to use less common language. Some choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear: “memorial party” does not naturally describe a joyful reunion, “good price” seems to mean a prize, and “organizing the venue” is not the usual way to describe arranging a location. There are also spelling errors in “encoutered” and “serval.” Choose words that fit the celebratory context, check spelling, and learn common combinations such as “book a venue” and “offer a prize.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including the relative clause “as you are working as an event planner” and the purpose clause “to ensure that the environment is conducive and safe.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “our10 years anniversary” needs a possessive form and spacing, “on December” needs an article or a more precise date expression, and “The event be during the day” is missing a finite verb. “How fun our school days are” also shifts tense from the past context. Review verb forms, articles, and tense consistency, then proofread punctuation and spacing to make your varied sentence structures more controlled.
