Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear XYZ.

I Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter because I am thinking of organise an event for all our college friends as you know its been 10 years since we graduated from the collage.

I'm thinking of booking a small venue which could be sufficient for 50 people. Moreover, for starters we can include few drinks and fast food items like soft drinks, coffee ,hot drinks, pasta, spring rolls and burgers. Later, we will do dinner together. For dinner we can select one non vegetarian meal and one vegetrain meal this way each one of us can have their favourite meal.

I would like you to make invitation cards and send it to everyone online with venue's address and date and time, as you are good with technology and it will help us to save a considerable abount of money which we can spend on something else. This event would help us to get togther and know how everybody is doing in their lives. I am looking forward to spend good time with all. Let me know if you need any help.

Your friend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you propose a venue-based gathering with food, explain that it will let classmates reconnect, and ask your friend to prepare and send invitations. The practical details—around 50 people, meal choices, and including the date, time, and venue—make the plan relevant and clear. The explanation of why this format would be enjoyable is present, but is less developed than the event plan; for example, you could explain why sharing dinner or meeting in person would suit this anniversary. The request for help is specific, though you could also invite your friend to assist with another organising task. This covers the task well, with some ideas needing further development for a more fully extended response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed celebration, then explain the help you need and close warmly. Paragraphing supports this progression, and connectors such as “Moreover,” “Later,” and “this way” help show how the event would work. However, some links feel mechanical or unclear. The long paragraph combines the invitation request, the reason for saving money, and the benefit of meeting again, so the reader has to follow several purposes at once. “This event” also refers back broadly rather than linking clearly to a particular feature. Separate the request from the explanation of the event’s social value, and use more precise references to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to describe the event and its practical arrangements, including “venue,” “invitation cards,” “non vegetarian meal,” and “considerable amount of money.” The food examples also make the plan concrete. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, as in “collage,” “vegetrain,” “abount,” and “togther,” and some phrases are not natural in this context, such as “fast food items” for a mixed list that includes drinks and pasta. “Good time” is understandable but general. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but greater accuracy and more natural collocations would make the letter sound more fluent and precise. Check spelling carefully and choose expressions that match the meaning you intend.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple and more extended sentence forms, and the meaning is generally clear. For instance, “I would like you to make invitation cards and send it to everyone online” combines a request with a second action, while “this way each one of us can have their favourite meal” explains the purpose of the meal choices. Some grammatical errors remain. “I am thinking of organise” needs a gerund after “thinking of,” and “I am looking forward to spend” needs the -ing form after “look forward to.” There are also article and agreement issues in “include few drinks” and “send it” when referring to plural cards. Review verb patterns, articles, and pronoun agreement; more consistently accurate sentences would strengthen the letter.
