Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sam,

I hope you are doing well! It's been a long time since we last talked, so I thought I have to drop you a line that it's been 10 years since we left the college. Therefore, I am going to organise an event to celebrate this anniversary with all our college friends and classmates.

let me explain, I want to organise a night party at my farm house, where I am going to arrange a music concert of famous sufi singer "Noora sisters" for 2 hours. Also, I have prepared a videos by joining all the photos and videos of our college time. Apart from this, there will be some games that we will play and will dance. In food , I have hired a cattering service , they will manage all the arrangements of different cuisines .

According to me celebrating by this way will be good because as in college days our all friends like to listened sufi music and in this gathering we will get time to spend with each other . By watching the video we will get a chance to cherish our college memories.

For organising this event I need your help , please suggest me some games that everyone will enjoy. Also let me know, If you have any other idea to make this event and night more memorable and enjoyable.

I will be waiting for your ideas, so that we both make this event successfull and also come a day prior no excuses will be entertained . Can't wait to catch up soon .

Hugs,

Max

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you propose a farm-house party with music, videos, games and food; explain that it will bring classmates together and revive shared memories; and ask Sam for game suggestions and other ideas. These details make the plan relevant and give the letter a clear purpose. The explanation of why this format would work is present, but is less fully developed than the event description: for example, you could explain why the farm-house setting or live music would suit the group. Your request for help is also somewhat narrow, focusing mainly on games and ideas rather than assigning a practical organising task. The response covers the task well overall, with some ideas needing further development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed event, explain its appeal, and then ask for help. Paragraphing supports these stages, and links such as “Apart from this,” “According to me,” and “Also” help the reader follow the plan. The sequence is generally easy to understand, though some connections feel mechanical or unclear. For instance, “let me explain” does not link smoothly to the preceding sentence, and the final request combines asking for ideas with telling Sam to arrive early, making the practical purpose less focused. More natural transitions and clearer separation of the event details from the request would make the organisation more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a friendly invitation, including relevant expressions such as “celebrate this anniversary,” “cherish our college memories,” and “catch up soon.” The event vocabulary also helps convey a specific plan. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “arrange a music concert,” “cattering service,” and “make this event successfull.” Spelling errors such as “videos” where the intended form is “video,” “catering,” and “successful” also reduce accuracy. A few phrases, including “night party” and “come a day prior,” are not fully natural in this context. Using more precise collocations and checking spelling would make the letter sound more fluent and polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example the clause beginning “where I am going to arrange” and the explanation beginning “because.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. In “I thought I have to drop you a line,” the tense sequence is inconsistent; “I thought I should drop you a line” would be more suitable. There are also errors in articles and agreement, as in “I have prepared a videos,” and in the sentence “our all friends like to listened,” where the word order and verb form need correction. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, particularly at sentence openings and around commas. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the letter.
