Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear friends,

I hope you all are doing well. I am writing to plan an event to celebrate the tenth anniversary of our leaving college. I want to plan a reunion for this occasion. However, we will be dressing up again in our college uniform and perform several classroom activities like drama, dance and entertaining speech altogether which we used to do during our back golden days.

I think it would be great idea to celebrate it this way as it would give us a chance to cherish those days. Moreover, heartfelt memories would create a sense of purpose. Its been a long time everyone is packed with their hectic schedule, although escaping it just to remenice a good days is the highlight of meetups.

Probably, I was looking for a help with some arrangements regarding the audio and speaker system as well as clothing for drama you can bring from home. Also, preparing the speech for upcoming performances.

I hope to see you soon

Best wishes,

hets

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address all three bullet points: you propose a reunion with college activities, explain that it would help everyone cherish shared memories, and ask for help with equipment, costumes, and speeches. The central idea is relevant, but some parts are only partly clear or developed. For example, “heartfelt memories would create a sense of purpose” does not explain specifically why this format would make the anniversary enjoyable, and the requests for help are not directed clearly to the friend. The opening “Dear friends” also sounds as though you are writing to a group, although the task asks for a letter to one college friend. Make the event plan and the recipient’s role more specific, and develop the reasons with concrete details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the first paragraph introduces the reunion, the second gives reasons, and the third asks for practical help. This paragraphing and the use of links such as “Moreover” and “Also” help the reader follow the main points. The progression is not always smooth, however. “However” does not clearly contrast with the preceding sentence, and the long sentence beginning “Its been a long time” combines several ideas in a confusing way. The final request also shifts abruptly from equipment to clothing and speech preparation. Use clearer links between the event, its benefits, and the friend’s tasks, and make references such as “you” unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “reunion,” “classroom activities,” “heartfelt memories,” and “hectic schedule.” These choices communicate the general idea, and you attempt some less common expressions. Some wording is inaccurate or unnatural, though, which limits precision: “back golden days” is not a natural expression, “a good days” has an incorrect form, and “a help” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling errors in “remenice” and “Its” where the intended word is “It’s.” Choose familiar, natural phrases when unsure, and check spelling and collocations carefully so your ideas sound fluent and clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “Moreover” and the clause “although escaping it…”. However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms sometimes make the message less clear. For example, “we will be dressing up again in our college uniform and perform” does not maintain a consistent verb structure, while “Its been a long time everyone is packed” joins clauses without a clear grammatical connection. The request paragraph also contains a fragment: “Also, preparing the speech for upcoming performances.” Review verb forms, articles, and how clauses are joined; separating the ideas into complete sentences would improve accuracy while preserving your range.
