Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Friends,
I hope you are doing well. I have been thinking from the past few days to organise an event to celebrate anniversary as ten yeras has been passed since we left the college.
To celebrate this moment i would like to organize a small event in banquet hall. We could invite our classmates and some favourite professors. We could organize a side slide show where we can display our old college memories. Moreover, the event could include a delicious dinner, dancing and fun games.
I personally believe that the event would act as a platform to reunite us. It could be a great way to break the monotony as we are living a same hectic life. It would be a fun to see each other after a long time.
I would really appreciate if you could help me to organise it. I need a list of people with there current addresses and contact numbers so that we can send them an invitation. If anybody knows about famous catering please let me know.
I hope you all like my idea. If you guys want to add anything else. Please feel free. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Rimple Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you propose a banquet-hall gathering with dinner, dancing, games and a slideshow; explain that it would help everyone reconnect and break routine; and ask for contact details and catering recommendations. These are relevant, clear ideas, and the friendly tone suits a letter to a college friend. However, some points are less fully developed: for example, you could explain how the slideshow or activities would make the reunion memorable, and specify what particular organising task you would like your friend to take responsibility for. The opening “Dear Friends” also addresses a group rather than the one friend requested. A more direct greeting and a clearer, more specific request would make the response more fully targeted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph describing the event, an explanation of its value, and a request for help. This progression makes the purpose easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “I personally believe” help signal how ideas relate. The closing also gives the letter a natural sense of completion. To make the organisation more polished, avoid abrupt transitions and connect related details more smoothly. For instance, “If anybody knows about famous catering please let me know” follows the request for contact details without a clear link; it could be integrated into a specific list of help needed. The sentence “If you guys want to add anything else. Please feel free” also needs clearer punctuation and separation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its purpose, including “banquet hall,” “reunite,” “monotony,” and “hectic life.” These choices show some range beyond basic descriptions, and the reader can understand the intended meaning throughout. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “organise a side slide show,” “a same hectic life,” and “famous catering.” There are also spelling and form slips, including “yeras” and “anniversary” without a clear reference to the ten-year milestone. Aim for more natural combinations and precise event vocabulary—for example, “a slideshow of old college memories” and “a reputable catering company.” Proofreading would help you use your existing range more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including “I personally believe that the event would act as a platform to reunite us” and the conditional “If anybody knows … please let me know.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include “I have been thinking from the past few days” (use “for the past few days”), “ten years has been passed” (the subject and verb form need correction), and “I would really appreciate if” (use “it” after “appreciate”). Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention in “It would be a fun” and “anything else.Please.” Review tense and agreement, article use, and punctuation, while continuing to practise varied sentence forms.
