Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John ,
I hope you are doing good. It's been a long time since I have written to you. I remember how we use to study and had so much fun together. It's been ten years since our graduation. So, to celebrate our togetherness I want to organize an event "Reunion - Batch 2016". In which I would like to invite all of our batchmates and have a fun filled get together.
I think it will be a good idea to have this get together as it will allow us to revisit the old memory lane which was filled with lot of happiness and a carefree life. I will also help to reconnect with old friends , and also helps us to create new experiences and build new memories which will be cherished for life.
So, to get this event to happen I need your help in finding out all the contact information for our batchmates so that we can send them an invitation by confirming their availability for time and dates. I also need your help in making this event a success by planning out venue, food and drinks. I hope you will help me out , and will be awaiting for your reply.
Regards,
Anna

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you propose a reunion, explain that it would revive shared memories and reconnect classmates, and ask John to help gather contact details and plan the venue, food, and drinks. The purpose and friendly relationship are clear, and the ideas are extended with relevant reasons rather than simply listed. The explanation of the event itself is somewhat general, however: “a fun filled get together” does not specify much about what attendees would do or how the celebration would be arranged. Adding one or two concrete activities would make the proposal more fully developed while retaining the clear, appropriate tone.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: it opens with personal context, introduces the reunion, explains its value, and then sets out the help needed before closing. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “So, to celebrate” and “So, to get this event to happen” make the relationships between ideas easy to follow. Some connections are repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “So,” and the final paragraph combines several requests in a long sequence. Varying the transitions and separating the practical requests into more clearly grouped points would make the cohesion more flexible and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant expressions such as “reconnect,” “create new experiences,” and “cherished for life.” The wording communicates the friendly, celebratory tone, and the reader can understand the intended meaning throughout. However, some collocations and phrases are imprecise or awkward, including “revisit the old memory lane,” “our togetherness,” and “get this event to happen.” “Fun filled” is also less polished in this context. Aim for more natural combinations and precise event-related vocabulary; this would give you greater flexibility and reduce the word-choice inaccuracies that currently limit the range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the reason clause “as it will allow us to…” and the purpose clause “so that we can send them an invitation.” Most sentences remain understandable, and the message is not impeded by the errors. Some grammatical slips are present: “we use to study” should be “we used to study,” and “I will also help” does not match the intended subject, which is the get-together. In “I will also help to reconnect … and also helps us,” the verb forms do not agree consistently. Review tense, subject–verb agreement, and parallel verb forms, and check punctuation spacing around commas.
