Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Malik,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you about celebrating 10 year anniversary with all our friends and classmates from the college. I would like to request you to assist me on this matter.
To begin with, I want to tell you that its been 10 years since we left college, so I am planning to organise an event on this occassion. I wanted to celebrate this by inviting all our friends from college on Aug 20th, 2026.
I believe it would be great for all our friends to come and join us, so that we can have a reunion party. I will book a banquet hall for this event and will also order for catering to have good food for all of us. It would be great opportunity for all of us to spend time with each other by chatting, dancing and enjoying food.
I would like to request your assistance for decoration of the hall and preparation for invitation cards. Please try to meet me at my house this weekend.
I hope to hear from you soon. Please let me know what you think.
Best wishes
Dilpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you propose a reunion party on August 20, explain that classmates can chat, dance and share food, and ask Malik to help with decorations and invitation cards. The purpose and friendly tone are clear, and the banquet hall and catering make the plan concrete. However, the reasons for choosing this format are only briefly developed, and the help requested could be more specific—for example, whether Malik should design, print or distribute the invitations, and what decorating tasks he could take on. The invitation to meet at your house is useful, but adding a clearer next step or asking him to confirm availability would make the request more complete. The response covers the task well, though some ideas need further development and detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the anniversary, present the event plan, explain its appeal, and finish by requesting help. Paragraph breaks support this progression, and the closing is appropriate for a personal letter. Linking phrases such as “To begin with” and “I believe” help guide the reader, although the former sounds somewhat mechanical in this context, and the repeated references to “all our friends” make some connections less smooth. The opening also repeats the purpose already stated in the next paragraph. To strengthen the flow, combine related information and use clearer references—for instance, refer to “the reunion” after introducing it, rather than repeating “this event.” Overall, the organisation is coherent, with some cohesion that could be more natural and flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for organising a reunion, including “reunion party,” “banquet hall,” “catering,” “decoration” and “invitation cards.” These choices make the plan easy to understand, and the tone is suitably friendly. Some phrasing is less natural or precise, such as “assist me on this matter,” “order for catering” and “preparation for invitation cards.” There are also spelling errors in “occassion” and “its” where you mean “it’s”; accurate spelling matters even when the intended meaning is clear. Aim for more natural collocations and a little more variety, such as “help me organise the reunion” and “arrange catering.” This would make the vocabulary more fluent and precise while preserving the clear message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the purpose clause in “so that we can have a reunion party” and the list of activities “chatting, dancing and enjoying food.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain: “10 year anniversary” needs a plural form, “I would like to request you to assist” has an awkward verb pattern, and “It would be great opportunity” is missing an article. The phrase “its been 10 years” also needs the contraction “it’s been.” Review articles, plurals and verb patterns, and check punctuation around the greeting and closing. More accurate control of these forms, alongside your existing sentence variety, would improve the overall grammatical quality.
