Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Smith,

How's going? It's been a while we catch up with our classmates. On the anniversary of our friendship approaching to decade this month, I would like to throw a grand celebration with them.

To organized an event, I wanted you to invite all our mates by creating a What's App group. Where we can create a poll whose gonna come to attend the party. I was thinking to rent a party plot where we can gather for all day to enjoy and concluding our day with fine-dine dinner.

It would be good idea to place an event on party plot, since everyone could get out from there busy lifestyle.

This event would definitely helps to regain our past memories and those celebration moments from our college function days.

Since, I am looking for the venue and food, I want you to take care of the all invitees. Please don't forget to call Martin as he is only shy person in our batch.

See you soon. I will text you the venue.

Love,

Jack

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you propose a gathering with dinner, explain that it would help classmates reconnect and recall college memories, and ask your friend to manage invitations while you handle the venue and food. The purpose and friendly relationship are clear. The event plan is reasonably specific, including a party venue, a full day together, and a dinner. However, some parts are less fully explained: for example, you do not say how you would choose a date or venue, and the reason that classmates could “get out from there busy lifestyle” is not clearly expressed. The personal detail about Martin adds warmth. To develop the response further, explain the practical arrangements and benefits more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure: an opening, a description of the proposed event, reasons for it, a request for help, and a friendly closing. This gives the reader an overall coherent route through the message. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. “To organized an event” introduces the invitation plan, but the following sentence beginning “Where we can create a poll” is a fragment rather than a connected sentence. The transition from the venue plan to the reasons for the event is also abrupt, and “Since” at the start of the request is punctuated awkwardly. Use complete sentences and clearer links such as “As I’ll be arranging the venue and food, could you…?” to make the progression more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant expressions for a friendly invitation, including “throw a grand celebration,” “regain our past memories,” and “fine-dine dinner.” The message remains understandable, and details such as “all our mates” and “shy person in our batch” suit the informal context. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “anniversary of our friendship” when the task concerns leaving college, “party plot,” and “get out from there busy lifestyle.” “Fine-dine dinner” is also not the natural expression here. These choices sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Aim for familiar, precise collocations such as “college reunion,” “venue,” and “take a break from their busy lives,” while keeping the friendly tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, for example, “since everyone could…” and “as he is…,” and the overall message can be followed. However, control is uneven, and errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “How’s going?” (a subject is needed), “To organized an event,” “I wanted you to invite,” and “This event would definitely helps.” The sentence beginning “Where we can create a poll” is also incomplete, while “Since, I am looking…” uses punctuation incorrectly. These errors sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Practise forming complete clauses and checking verb forms after modal verbs and infinitives; for example, “This event would definitely help us…”.
