Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Richa,

I hope you are well. It's been a long time our friend group have not meet to each other. Can you remember our college days? It was a great fun for our friend group to spend a lots of time together. It's been 10 years gone and we have not meet. so I just try to rejuvinile our college days by a get together arranged by me on next month on the day of my anniversery.

The date is 10th December, thursday at 7 p.m, when I decided to arrange a party on our very favourite restaurent KrisKros, where we used to spend lots of time with all of you.

As I have recently visited the restaurent, so I think it would be the best place for all of us to memorise our college days. The area is quite good for our 10 friends group with their families. I hope we will be not more than 30 person. The most attractive thing about the area is there is also a live music concert happens and moreover the food is also good as they served in our college time.

I need some favour from you. I will arrange all the venue properly and already decided foods for us. you have to confirmed who ever are vegeterian in our group or if there are any of their family members are vegeterian, so that I can arrange proper food for everybody. The event is not only just my anniversary, it also a grand meet up for all of us after a long time. Hope we will enjoy a lot and make our get together a grand succes.

Lots of love,

Amrita

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three points: you propose a restaurant gathering, explain its connection to your college memories and the venue’s food and music, and ask Richa to check guests’ vegetarian requirements. The purpose is clear and the friendly tone suits a college friend. The event details, including the date, time and restaurant, make the plan concrete. However, the reason for choosing this format is developed more fully than the practical arrangements, and the request for help is quite narrow: asking about dietary needs is useful, but you could also ask Richa to contact classmates or confirm attendance. To strengthen the response, explain more specifically why a restaurant reunion would suit the whole group and clarify the anniversary being celebrated.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a generally logical sequence: you introduce the reunion, give its date and venue, explain the choice, and then ask for help. Paragraphing supports these stages, and the closing is appropriate for an informal letter. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. For example, “As I have recently visited the restaurant, so I think…” uses two linking forms where one would be enough, and the shift from the anniversary to the reunion could be made clearer. There is also some repetition of “college days,” “time together” and “get together.” Use a wider range of natural transitions and make references such as “the area” more precise so the reader can follow each point effortlessly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its atmosphere, including “live music concert,” “vegetarian” and “grand meet up.” The informal expressions are broadly suitable for writing to a friend, and the reader can understand your main message. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “rejuvinile,” “anniversery,” “restaurent” and “succes.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “a great fun,” “spend a lots of time” and “memorise our college days.” These errors show that vocabulary control is not yet consistent, even though they do not prevent understanding. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases rather than translating them word by word.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, for example the explanation beginning “As I have recently visited…” and the request about guests’ food preferences. However, control of sentence structure and verb forms is uneven, and errors sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “It's been a long time our friend group have not meet,” “we have not meet,” and “you have to confirmed,” where the verb forms and sentence patterns are faulty. Agreement and articles also need attention in “it also a grand meet up” and “I hope we will be not more than 30 person.” Practise present perfect forms, subject–verb agreement, and modal patterns such as “have to + base verb.” More accurate sentence construction will make your ideas clearer.
