Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Lewis,

Hope you find my letter well. I wa scrolling my phone gallry toady and found some of our college picture and that brought me back to the college days. To refresh those those golden days i am thinking to organise a celebration. I would like to rewind our final year DJ night. It would be better if we arrange catering on site beacuse last time we had to go to restaurant to eat. Party will start with some funny and interesting games along with starter snacks then ends up with dinner.

As everyone is busy in their working life so one night party would be great on saturday weekend and we all will stay there for sunday to get out from party hang over.

I decide to contact you first because you all of our friend's phone numbers. This i sthe only task i want to put on you and rest of the arrangements i will do.

I will wait for your reply

mia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you propose recreating the final-year DJ night, explain that it would bring back college memories and avoid the previous need to go elsewhere for food, and ask Lewis to provide friends’ phone numbers. The event is also made fairly concrete with games, snacks and dinner. However, the reason for choosing a Saturday and staying until Sunday is not fully clear, and the request for help is narrow: Lewis is asked to share contacts, while you say you will handle the rest. Develop these points by explaining the practical benefit of the overnight plan and specifying whether Lewis could also help contact classmates or coordinate arrangements. This would make the purpose and requested support more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: a memory prompts the idea, you describe the celebration, explain its timing, and then ask Lewis for help. Paragraph breaks also separate these stages, and links such as “because” and “then” help the reader follow the plan. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some of the clearer progression associated with a stronger performance. However, a few connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “so one night party would be great on saturday weekend” and “This i sthe only task i want to put on you.” The closing also feels abrupt. Use clearer transitions between the event details and its timing, and finish with a direct question or invitation for Lewis to reply.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for a friendly reunion letter, including “DJ night,” “catering,” “starter snacks,” and “party hang over,” so the reader can understand the event you have in mind. There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “golden days” and “rewind.” However, several spelling errors and unnatural word combinations reduce accuracy: “gallry,” “toady,” and “beacuse” are examples, while “Hope you find my letter well” and “rewind our final year DJ night” are not natural expressions in this context. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and proofread spelling. A wider range of precise phrases for organising an event would also help you express the plan more flexibly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, for example, “I would like to rewind our final year DJ night” and the sentence explaining that the party will include games, snacks and dinner. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect fluency and clarity. “Hope you find my letter well” is missing a subject and uses an unsuitable structure; “Party will start” needs an article, and “I decide to contact you first” needs a past or present-perfect form. The sentence beginning “As everyone is busy” also has an unclear construction, while “you all of our friend's phone numbers” lacks a grammatical link. Practise complete sentence patterns, articles, verb forms and possessives, then check punctuation and capitalisation.
