Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Rohan,
subject: Celebrating a reunion event
I am writing this letter to inform you that we are thinking to organise an event for all our college mates. Event can be held at college in council hall which would be a small get together with lot of refreshments. This is the best way to celebrate this event because everyone can look and walk around the college before the party begins which helps to remember their past in nostalgic way.
Furthermore, there are lot of things to manage for this event such as decorating hall, booking food carts and many more but i want you to help me by discusing with all friends about this event . After talking to all mates we can easily decide which date and time is best for the event.
Thank you for you time and understanding. i look forward for your responce.
Best regards
Harpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you propose a college reunion in the council hall, explain that classmates can revisit the college and remember the past, and ask Rohan to discuss the event with friends. The purpose and main plan are clear, and the nostalgic reason is relevant. However, the celebration itself is only briefly described, and the practical help requested is less fully developed: you mention decorating and food carts but mainly ask Rohan to consult classmates, without specifying who will handle these arrangements. To strengthen the response, explain the event’s activities or schedule and make the requested responsibilities more precise. The ideas are relevant and cover the task, but some are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a generally logical order: you introduce the reunion, explain why the venue would be meaningful, and then discuss organisation and ask for help. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “After talking to all mates” help show how the ideas relate. The overall progression is clear, though the message is compressed into two long body paragraphs, and the shift from listing arrangements to asking Rohan to consult everyone could be smoother. A clearer paragraph for the event plan and another for the reason and practical arrangements would make the structure easier to follow. Use paragraph breaks and transitions that connect each request directly to the task it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the reunion plan, and phrases such as “get together,” “refreshments,” and “nostalgic” help convey the event and its purpose. You also attempt more specific wording, including “council hall” and “food carts.” Some choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, however: “thinking to organise” is not a natural phrase, “look and walk around” is imprecise, and “remember their past” would be more naturally expressed as revisiting shared memories. Spelling errors such as “discusing” and “responce” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling; for example, use “planning to organise” and “reminisce about our college days.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and longer structures, including the relative clause in “which would be a small get together” and the reason clause beginning “because everyone can…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “we are thinking to organise” (use “thinking of organising”), “there are lot of things” (use “there are a lot of things”), and “Thank you for you time” (use “your time”). Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, particularly the lowercase “i” and the space before the full stop in “event .” To improve, check verb patterns, articles, possessives, and sentence boundaries, while retaining the longer sentence forms you have attempted.
