Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Rahul,

How are you? I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirit. I am planning to organize a small get together for our college batch mates on the occasion of 10th anniversary since we left our college. I am thinking of booking resort near city side where we can spend some good times having a dinner and playing fun games.

It has been so long that we all meet together under one roof and discuss what is happening in our life. Moreover, this will gave us an opportunity to talk to all batch friends and cherish our old good days.

I want a small help from you, to send the formal invitation to everyone as you were class representative and had everyone contact details. Furthermore, I you arrange cab services for individuals that needed after party will be very helpful.

Hope to see you soon in the party.

Yours sincerely,

Gautam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three points and gives a clear, relevant plan: a get-together at a resort with dinner and games. You also explain the value of meeting again to catch up and remember college, and ask Rahul to send invitations and arrange transport. These details make the purpose clear and meet the task well. To make the response more fully developed, explain why the resort format is especially suitable—for example, how it would give everyone time to relax and socialise—and clarify the transport request, including who needs a cab and when. The reason for celebrating is present, but the event choice and practical help could be supported with a little more specific detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The message follows a clear progression: you introduce the anniversary plan, explain why you want to meet, request Rahul’s help, and close warmly. Paragraphing separates these functions effectively, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” help connect related points. The overall organisation is easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however: the shift from the invitation request to arranging cabs is abrupt, and “Furthermore” makes the second request sound like an added formal point rather than part of a friendly letter. A clearer transition or a separate sentence explaining the transport need would improve flow. The opening and closing are appropriate, though the request paragraph could be more carefully organised.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a friendly invitation, including “anniversary,” “formal invitation,” “cherish,” and “class representative.” The reader can understand the event and the help you need. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “college batch mates,” “city side,” “old good days,” and “cab services for individuals that needed.” “Get together” is also better written as “get-together” when used as a noun. These choices limit precision and naturalness, although they do not prevent communication. Aim for familiar, accurate phrases such as “former classmates,” “near the city,” and “reminisce about our college days,” and check that each phrase fits the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example “as you were class representative” and “It has been so long that…”. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “this will gave us an opportunity,” use the base verb after “will” (“give”); “I you arrange cab services” is missing a verb such as “if”; and “that needed after party” needs a clearer relative clause, such as “who need them after the party.” There are also article and number issues in “booking resort” and “everyone contact details.” These errors show that verb forms, sentence construction, and articles need more consistent checking. Proofread each sentence for a complete clause and correct verb pattern.
