Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Lina,
How are you friend? Its been a while since we met. I hope you are excelling in your MBA at university. Well , I would like to mention that its been a decade since we left JJ College times seem to fly. I would like to organise a small event at hotel banquet where we can actually reunite and remake some old memories.
So for this event I would invite all of our professors so we can create a memorable experience by awarding them with speeches and including all of class room memories , doesnt it sound like fun?Well I have already booked a banquet which has capacity of almost 100 persons and have given decoration contract to set up a stage with photos and memories of us with professors with class room theme and even ordered a customized cake with picture of us.
Its actually a perfect occasion to reunite as most of our classmates are busy excelling in their professions and we hardly get chance to get together along with teachers , this event would make us relive the college days.
for this I would like you to be the host for the event as you were the one among us hosting events in the past at college functions so looking forward to it , let arrange a meeting this weekend and decide further.
Best regards,
Vishwa

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you propose a banquet celebration, explain that it would let classmates and teachers reconnect and relive college days, and ask Lina to host. Details such as inviting professors, displaying photographs, and ordering a customised cake make the plan specific and relevant. The reason for celebrating is also supported by the observation that classmates are busy and rarely meet. To make the response more fully developed, explain a little more about how Lina could help beyond hosting—for example, contacting classmates or confirming attendance—and clarify the event arrangements where useful. Overall, the purpose and friendly relationship with the recipient remain clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed event, explain its value, and then make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “So for this event” and “for this” guide the reader through the plan. The progression is generally easy to follow, but some links feel mechanical, and the long second paragraph combines several details that would be clearer when separated. The transition from the event arrangements to why the reunion matters could also be smoother. Use paragraph breaks for each main point and vary linking expressions; ensure punctuation and spacing around questions and sentence boundaries support the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a personal letter, including relevant expressions such as “reunite,” “memorable experience,” “customized cake,” and “relive the college days.” These choices communicate the plan and its purpose, and the tone is appropriately friendly. There are, however, some imprecise or unnatural phrases, including “hotel banquet,” “awarding them with speeches,” and “class room memories.” “Excelling” is repeated and does not add much precision in this context. Spelling and word-form control also need attention, as in “doesnt.” Aim for natural collocations and more exact wording, particularly when describing the venue and how professors will be honoured.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and longer structures, including the reason clause in “as most of our classmates are busy” and the relative clause “as you were the one among us hosting events.” The message remains understandable, but some errors in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and punctuation reduce accuracy. For example, “How are you friend?” needs punctuation around the form of address, while “Its been a while” requires an apostrophe in “It’s.” The sentence beginning “So for this event” runs several ideas together, and “let arrange a meeting” has an incorrect verb form. Break long sentences into shorter units and check sentence boundaries, apostrophes, and verb patterns.
