It is ten years since you left college. You'd like to organise an event to celebrate this anniversary with all your friends and classmates from college.

Write a letter to one of your college friends. In your letter

• say what kind of celebration event you'd like to organise

• explain why you think it would be good to celebrate in this way

• describe what help you need to organise this event

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Taran,

I hope you're doing well. I am writing to inform you that I am thinking about to organise a party with all our class-fellows.

As you know, it will be ten years passed since our school life completed in the upcoming week. I am planning to organise a 10th years anniversary event, in the event, I will invite our all classmates. I would like to organsize a party at our school ground, so all our teachers can attend easily with us.

Well, I think that this type of celebration would be extremely enjoyable for everyone. With the help of this party, we can meet our old friends and mentors. We can also create new memories.

I really need your help in this celebration. I would appreciate it if you could come at my home two days before the party, so you can help decorted the event hall and arrange other works. As well, I will attach a list with this letter where I wrote the name of our friends, so you can send a invite letter to them.

I hope you would like my idea and help me to organise this party. I look forward to hearing your response.

Best wishes,

Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three points: you propose a party at the school, explain that it would let classmates meet old friends and teachers and make new memories, and ask Taran to help with decorating and invitations. The friendly opening and closing also suit the purpose. The explanation of why this format is best is relevant but brief, and the practical arrangements could be clearer—for example, the date, likely activities, or how Taran should send the invitations. The request for help is more specific than the reasons for the celebration, so the task is covered unevenly. Developing these details and linking them more directly to the anniversary would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the plan, explains its benefits, asks for help, and closes appropriately. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “As you know” and “I hope” support the friendly tone. However, some connections are awkward or repetitive, including “in the event” immediately after “event” and the repeated references to organising a party. The sentence about attaching a list also combines two requests without a smooth transition. Use clearer links between the anniversary, the venue, and the practical arrangements, and vary repeated references so the progression feels more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for communicating the plan, with relevant expressions such as “anniversary event,” “classmates,” “mentors,” and “create new memories.” The writer also attempts more specific language about the venue and preparations. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “class-fellows” is less natural than “classmates,” “10th years anniversary” is inaccurate, and “decorted” and “organsize” are misspelled. “Arrange other works” and “send a invite letter” are also awkward. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but more accurate, natural phrases and careful proofreading would strengthen the vocabulary control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter uses a mix of simple statements and longer structures, including the conditional request “I would appreciate it if you could come…” and the purpose clause “so you can help…”. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “thinking about to organise” should be “thinking about organising,” and “it will be ten years passed” needs a more suitable tense, such as “it will have been ten years.” There are also errors in “our all classmates” and “help decorted,” where word order and verb form need correction. Practise accurate verb patterns, tense choices, and sentence construction while retaining the variety of structures already attempted.
