Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hii Sam
Hope you're doing splendidly! it's been ages since we've caught up with each other, so, I get the ball rolling with some pleasant tiding. you'd be thrilled to hear that I've been planning to organize a special get together for our college classmates.
I'm planning to book the resort near lakeside of muskoka town. this resort have a beautiful scenic view and i will also arrange the dinner for everyone. Along with that, the very next evening we will have a great party night as i know only dinner meeting is not enough for us as we all are meeting after a long gap of ten years.
I think this is a perfect place for us as we all went through several situation. Also some of our friends moved to another countries and some chose different career so i 'm thinking that this is the best place to hear from each other.
i know you are a social person and you're definitely in touch with most of the batchmates. i need your help to invite them. i can't wait to see you.
With regard

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you propose a resort gathering with dinner and a party, explain that classmates have been apart for ten years and can catch up, and ask Sam to invite former classmates. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. The explanation of why the resort is suitable is less fully developed: “we all went through several situation” is vague, and the connection between the scenic location and the reunion could be clearer. The request for help is also quite narrow; you could specify whether Sam should contact people, confirm attendance, or help with arrangements. Developing these points more precisely would make the letter more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the reunion, describe the proposed event, explain its purpose, and then ask Sam for help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “Along with that” and “Also” help connect related ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical or unclear, particularly “Also some of our friends moved…” after the general statement about shared experiences. The opening and closing are present, but the sign-off “With regard” is incomplete, and the greeting does not follow the requested format. Use more natural links between the reason for the venue and the reunion, and make the letter’s framing consistently clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a friendly reunion letter, including phrases such as “special get together,” “scenic view,” “career,” and “in touch with most of the batchmates.” The tone is generally warm and appropriate, and the reader can understand your plans. There are some inaccurate or unnatural choices, however: “pleasant tiding” is not idiomatic here, “dinner meeting” sounds too formal, and “party night” is less natural than a straightforward description of an evening party. Spelling and word-form slips such as “get together” as a noun and “lakeside” in the place description also reduce precision. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and capitalization.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, for example, “as i know only dinner meeting is not enough for us as we all are meeting after a long gap of ten years.” This shows an effort to explain and connect ideas, and the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, including subject–verb agreement in “this resort have,” article use in “book the resort near lakeside,” and tense or clause construction in “as we all are meeting.” Capitalization and punctuation are also inconsistent, especially after sentence breaks and around “i’m.” To improve accuracy, check agreement and articles, and divide long sentences into clearer clauses while retaining some varied structures.
