Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Friend,

I am very excited to inform you regarding my latest plan which, I am thinking for my anniversary. As you already know, after college our friend circle were busy in their own life and we didn't get the opportunities to meet with them. So, I decide to organise an event for my anniversary in which we will invite all of our college friends and we will reunite on that day.

On the one hand from past 10 years, we all were busy in our personal and professional life and we didn't get the opportunities to spare time for ourselves and relive or college life. I thought, its a great idea to gather on my anniversary and share our feeling, capture our memories and create some new ones also.

On the other hand, I loosen some of the contact details. I am writing you if you can help me to gather the contact details, so we can sent them invite. Also, I need some suggestion if you can help me in finalising the plan like; what are the games we can organise, help me in deciding the menue. One important thing I wants to confirm it with you, shall we invite their families also? Kindly provide your insight on that part as well.

I hope you could also find this as a great idea adn provide your valuable thoughts for this events. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and guidance.

Best Regards,

Nancy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you propose a reunion, explain that it would let classmates reconnect and share memories, and ask for help finding contact details and planning activities. The purpose is clear and the ideas are relevant. The explanation of why the event would be enjoyable is more developed than the event plan itself: you do not specify a venue, date, or particular format beyond gathering and playing games, and the help you need is presented as several questions rather than a clear request for practical support. To strengthen the letter, state the celebration format more precisely and explain what you would like your friend to take responsibility for. The friendly closing and request for their thoughts suit the purpose of writing to a college friend.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall structure: it introduces the reunion, explains its value, asks for assistance, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and phrases such as “So” and “Also” guide the reader through the ideas. However, “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” suggest a contrast that is not actually present, so these links feel mechanical. Some references are also unclear, particularly “my anniversary,” which could mean a personal anniversary rather than ten years since leaving college, and “their families” does not clearly identify whose families. Use more direct transitions and name the people or event explicitly to make the progression smoother and the relationships between ideas clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main purpose, including “reunite,” “capture our memories,” “contact details,” and “finalising the plan.” These choices show some range beyond basic wording. However, several word-choice and collocation errors make parts of the letter sound unnatural, such as “inform you regarding my latest plan,” “spare time for ourselves,” and “provide your insight on that part.” There are also spelling errors, including “menue” and “adn,” and “loosen” is not the right word for losing contact details. Aim for natural phrases suited to an informal letter, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary for the event and the help you need would also make the message clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning “As you already know” and “if you can help me,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with tense, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “our friend circle were busy” needs singular agreement, while “I decide to organise” should use a past form or a present perfect form to match the context. “I thought, its a great idea” also has punctuation and sentence-boundary problems, and “I wants to confirm it with you” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Review tense consistency and agreement, and punctuate longer sentences so that your varied structures remain clear.
