Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Aman,

I hope you are doing well. It has been a long time since we left the college. On this ocassion, I am organising a getogether party to celebrate our 10 year graduation anniversary.

I am planning to invite one of the famous singer Kamal Khan to perform in the party. We used to listen his songs during our college days and he is all time favourite singer of our group. Moreover, there will be lots of food drinks and some fun activities in the end.

I believe this is the perfect chance to enjoy vibe of his songs while he will be performing live on the stage in front of us. In addition, we can click selfies and group photos with him to keep them with us and create long lasting memories.

If you are avaiable, I would need little help from you to do some arrangements for the party. I am unable to decide on the design of invitation cards which I need to send to all the guests. I am sending you some design options with this letter. Please select one and let me know as soon as possible.

I hope to see you soon in the party.

Best Wishes

Ankit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you propose a celebration with a live singer, explain that his music was part of your college days and that photos would create lasting memories, and ask Aman to choose an invitation-card design. These details make the purpose and your request easy to understand, and the friendly tone suits a letter to a college friend. The explanation of the event’s appeal is supported with relevant reasons, although the food, drinks and activities are mentioned only briefly and the practical plan for the celebration could be developed further. To strengthen the response, add a little more detail about the event itself or why this format would suit the whole group, rather than relying mainly on the singer and photographs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed party, explain why it would be enjoyable, and then make a specific request for help. Separate paragraphs make these stages easy to follow, while phrases such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “If you are available” help connect ideas. The closing is also appropriate for a personal letter. Some linking is a little formulaic, and the transition from the singer’s performance to taking photographs could be smoother. You could improve the flow by varying how you connect supporting details and by making the relationship between the event plan and your request more explicit. Overall, the organisation is clear and the reader can follow the message without difficulty.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly invitation, including “graduation anniversary,” “perform,” “arrangements,” and “long lasting memories.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is generally suitable. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice or collocation errors, such as “ocassion,” “getogether,” “listen his songs,” and “enjoy vibe.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; for example, use “listen to his songs” and “enjoy the atmosphere of his music.” More precise expressions for the event and its activities would also help you describe the celebration with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentences, such as “I believe this is the perfect chance to enjoy vibe of his songs while he will be performing live” and the conditional request beginning “If you are available.” Most ideas remain clear, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “I am organising a get-together party to celebrate our 10 year graduation anniversary” needs more accurate article and noun phrasing, while “I would need little help” is missing an article. The sentence about listening to the singer’s songs also needs the correct preposition. Review articles, prepositions and sentence patterns, and check punctuation in lists such as “food, drinks and some fun activities.” Greater accuracy across these structures would make the letter more polished.
