Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your opinion is clear: you believe people should have a hobby because it makes life more enjoyable and offers a break from work. The cricket story gives a relevant personal example and shows how a hobby can be rewarding. However, the response addresses the topic only partially: most of the essay recounts one match, while the reasons for hobbies are stated briefly and not developed. The task names children, young adults, working people and retired people, but you do not explain how hobbies might benefit these different groups. To strengthen the response, keep the personal example shorter and add developed reasons that apply more broadly, such as supporting health, reducing stress or helping people build friendships.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable overall direction: it introduces your view, gives a personal example and ends by returning to the idea that hobbies prevent boredom. The cricket match also follows a basic time sequence. However, the essay is presented as one long paragraph, and the extended match narrative makes the main argument difficult to follow. Connections between ideas rely heavily on repeated forms such as “after that,” “then” and “so,” while some links between events are unclear. Use separate paragraphs for your opinion and reasons, your example, and your conclusion. Within them, use a wider range of clear transitions and make each paragraph develop one main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “hobby,” “passion,” “powerplay” and “under pressure.” The cricket details also show an attempt to use specific language rather than relying entirely on general terms. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the account harder to understand. For example, “cash price” does not express the intended meaning, and “people don't become bore” is not a natural phrase. Build a more varied vocabulary for discussing the benefits of hobbies, such as relaxation, fitness and social connection, and check spelling and collocations carefully. This will make the argument clearer and more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect events and give some detail using longer sentences, but most sentence patterns are simple or joined together without reliable punctuation. Errors in sentence boundaries, verb forms, agreement and articles occur frequently and can make parts of the story difficult to follow. For instance, “when i was in college my hobby was playing cricket” needs clearer punctuation, while “our 6 wickets was down” has an agreement error. The final sentence, “people don't become bore in his life,” also shows problems with verb form and pronoun agreement. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add controlled complex structures with “because,” “when” and “although.” Check tense consistency and punctuation when editing.
