Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's busy modern era this topic of persuing a hobby has becaome a topic of debate. In my opinion I strongly believe that people of all age should atleast have one hobby which they can have to spend time and enjoy the life.

According to my consideration, hobby is not only a liesure time activity but also an opportunity to grow within ourself. I remember, when I was a toddler we all family members were interested in watching cricket matches which eventually led me to develope playing cricket as my first childhood hobby. I continued playing in my childhood until teenage, later on due to some injuries unfortunately I was not able to continue. Ahead in my life as an adult I am now interested in using all the latest electronics devices and explore more. I have recently purchase a drone as well as pocket camera where I am learing new skills to capture nature and post it on social media.

After working for whole life at last every person has a dream to retire, but once someone retire they relentless. They start feeling every single second of their life is heavy and not passing through, at such times hobbies are the best option to invest time into. My father is retired and he has a hobby of maintaing an organic garden where he grows coriander, chillies, some veggies and some flowers. I have seen him being busy throughout the day taking care of those plants and channelize his time wisely and being happy.

To conclude, I believe investing time and money in hobbies, regardless of age. This keeps you happy and gives a feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe people of every age should have a hobby, and you give relevant personal examples involving cricket, photography and your father’s garden. These examples make the response engaging and support the view that hobbies provide enjoyment and purposeful activity. The discussion addresses the main question, but some parts are developed more fully than others. The benefits for retired people are illustrated in detail, while the value of hobbies for children, young adults and working people is less explicitly explained. The opening also repeats your opinion without previewing the main reasons. To strengthen the response, explain more directly how hobbies benefit each age group and develop the idea that they can support personal growth or wellbeing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph about your own hobbies, a paragraph about retirement, and a conclusion. The examples generally follow the ideas they support, and phrases such as “According to my consideration” and “To conclude” signal the direction of the discussion. This gives the essay a coherent progression. Some links are less smooth or precise, however. “Ahead in my life as an adult” makes the shift in time awkward, and the move from your personal experience to the general claim about retirement could be more clearly connected. The conclusion is brief and does not bring together the different age groups discussed in the task. Use transitions that show the relationship between ideas, and make each paragraph’s central point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss hobbies and personal experience, including “opportunity to grow,” “capture nature,” “organic garden” and “feeling of accomplishment.” These choices help convey specific examples rather than relying entirely on basic terms. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “they relentless” and “channelize his time wisely.” Spelling errors—including “persuing,” “becaome,” “liesure” and “maintaining”—also reduce accuracy. Some phrases are vague or repetitive, particularly “spend time” and “enjoy the life.” Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise wording will make your ideas clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including time clauses and relative clauses, as in “when I was a toddler” and “where he grows coriander.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “people of all age” needs a plural form, “I have recently purchase” has an incorrect verb form, and “once someone retire” does not maintain subject–verb agreement. The final sentence, “I believe investing time and money in hobbies,” is incomplete because it lacks a complete clause after “believe.” Review agreement, verb forms and sentence completeness, and check punctuation around longer sentences. More consistent control of these patterns would make your varied structures easier to follow.
