Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You clearly state an opinion: “having a hobby is necessary,” and you begin to explain that hobbies bring enjoyment. However, the response develops only this general point and does not give a specific reason, example, or explanation showing why hobbies matter to different age groups. The final phrase, “as a result we tend to be more,” is unfinished, so the argument is left incomplete. The response also contains 72 words, which is substantially below the required 250; this leaves the task only minimally addressed. To strengthen your answer, explain two distinct benefits, support each with a relevant example, and write a complete conclusion that restates your view.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic line of thought: you introduce your opinion and then add that hobbies provide enjoyment. Linking expressions such as “although,” “moreover,” and “as a result” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the relationships between these ideas are not always clear: “although” introduces no contrasting clause, and “as a result” leads into an unfinished sentence. The response has no developed paragraph structure or conclusion, so progression stops before the argument is complete. Organise the essay into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for your reasons and examples, and a conclusion. Use linking words only where their logical function is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “necessity,” “fulfillment,” and “joy,” to express the idea that hobbies are valuable. However, the range is narrow because the response is very short, and several spelling errors make the writing look less controlled: “eldely,” “opinoin,” “ingore,” and “fullfillment.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “have minimum of one hobby” and “something they drive joy in doing.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations—for example, “have at least one hobby” and “find enjoyment in an activity.” Developing your reasons with more precise vocabulary about wellbeing, relaxation, or social connection would demonstrate greater range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response includes a simple opinion statement and an attempt at a complex sentence beginning with “although,” so there is some variety in structure. However, control is uneven. The opening needs an article in “have minimum of one hobby,” and the sentence beginning “although” is not completed as a clear contrast. The final clause, “as a result we tend to be more,” is also unfinished, leaving the sentence grammatically incomplete. Capitalisation and punctuation need attention, including the lowercase “in” after the opening full stop and the missing comma after “as a result.” Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check articles, clause structure, and sentence boundaries.
