Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's modern era, many believe that it is necessary for toddlers, teenagers, working professionals, and the retired to have at least one hobby. In this essay, I will discuss this viewpoint and conclude with my opinion.
Firstly, I believe that people should have at least one leisure activity in their routine, it can be anything like playing sports, going to gym, attending yoga classes, reading books and many more. It will keep them active and physical fit and also improve their mental health. For example, according to recent studies done by medical collage showed that children who have an hobby, are highly competitive, have more focus on studies, their overall performance is excellent as compared to other children who does not have any hobby. As spending time on this you like would help you to improve brain functioning and will keep you stress free.
Secondly, having a hobby might help younger people to peruse or expand their carrier in that field such as people having drawing as their activity might be an architecture or someone playing sports can develop their carrier into that field. Moreover, for youngster spending time on physical activity can help them to maintain their physical health as now a days many people are facing problems like obesity.
In my opinion, I would like to conclude that having at least an leisure activity can improve one's mental and physical health. I believe that children, young people, adults or the retired should spend some of their time in doing some activity which will help them in overall development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the importance of hobbies across different age groups. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding career development is mentioned but not fully explored with specific, concrete examples. The essay tends to over-generalize, particularly in the claim that hobbies lead to 'excellent' performance in all children. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and specific examples to support your claims, ensuring that the connection between the hobby and the benefit is more thoroughly articulated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits for children and the general benefits of stress reduction is a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the essay is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'peruse' (though this is likely a misuse of 'pursue') and 'architecture'. However, there are several word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'medical collage' instead of 'college' and 'carrier' instead of 'career'. These errors do not generally impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling and collocations of common academic and professional terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('children who does not have any hobby') and incorrect verb forms ('peruse or expand their carrier'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage in complex sentences. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing. Increasing the number of error-free sentences through careful proofreading would significantly improve the score.
