Student answer (Band 6.5)
In these competitive age everyone is focusing on making wealth rather than actually enjoying a life. It is undeniable that every individuals should have some passion to follow out side of work life to keep them motivated. I will be providing few reasons to advocate my viewpoint in the upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, not only hobbies are a way to keep you engage in a free time but also a skill which can be helpful at the time of retirement. As if you are at home on a day off without any interests you will be addicted to bad habits such as scrolling through a phone or over sleeping which can ultimately makes a person lazy. Moreover, hobbies can make an individual more social and confident as they can meet people with same interest and get along with them quite easily. They don't feel boredom in the life as they always have some information to share among people. For instance, my nephew is a coin collector and a member of the Skin organization which helped him to be more confident as they often organize events and get-togethers and he is the one who act as an anchor in it.
On the other hand, some hobbies are quit expensive to pursue like, diamond collection and collecting paintings. Consequently, I have seen some young adults putting all their savings behind their hobbies rather than building their actual career and saving it for future which can have devastating affects to later life. While having a hobby is a great thing, one should always account for their family and financial condition first.
To conclude, I firmly believe that everyone should have some type of hobbies in their life as it gives motivations, purpose for living life and social abilities but one should not oversee factors like financial conditions and career stability.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear opinion and supporting it with relevant reasons and examples. The argument is well-structured, covering the benefits of hobbies for different age groups and acknowledging potential drawbacks like financial strain. The ideas are extended and supported, such as the example of the nephew who is a coin collector. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could further develop the connection between hobbies and specific age groups (e.g., working people vs. the retired) to ensure the response is fully comprehensive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'Consequently' are used effectively to link ideas. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in 'I will be providing few reasons to advocate my viewpoint'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits from the potential risks, contributing to a coherent overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common items like 'devastating affects' (note: should be 'effects') and 'career stability'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'competitive age' instead of 'competitive era' or 'competitive society', and 'Skin organization' which seems unclear. Spelling errors like 'out side' (outside) and 'quit' (quite) also occur. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, more precise and varied vocabulary would be required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('every individuals should have', 'hobbies... is a way', 'makes a person lazy') and incorrect word forms ('devastating affects' instead of 'effects'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some phrasing is slightly unnatural. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that complex sentence structures are constructed with greater accuracy.
