Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the importance of hobbies for children, working adults, and the retired. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant to each age group. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the section on working people mentions stress but lacks a concrete example or a more detailed explanation of how a hobby specifically mitigates this. While the response is sufficient to cover the topic, it would benefit from more depth and specific, well-integrated examples to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reinforces the writer's stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific age group. There is a clear progression of ideas from childhood to retirement. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'if we talk about' and 'then working people' are somewhat informal and repetitive. There are also issues with referencing and sentence-level transitions, such as the abrupt start to the paragraph about retired persons. While the overall structure is coherent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and occasional awkward phrasing limits the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'resilience', 'cooperation', and 'fine motor skills'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'its utilize you time' instead of 'it utilizes your time' and 'mentality relax' instead of 'mentally relaxed'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the repetition of basic words like 'hobby' and 'stressful' suggests a need for more variety and precision to convey ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('hobbies helps'), incorrect pronoun usage ('its utilize you time'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from achieving a higher score. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is essential.
