It is important for children, young adults, working people and the retired to have at least one hobby.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

There has been an ongoing argument about whether individuals of all age groups should have a hobby to pursue. In my opinion, hobbies help them to break the monotony of their daily life routine and are imperative for a healthy mind and body. Some hobbies such a solving puzzles or sudoku can develop the cognitive abilities whereas outdoor activities can improve the physical well-being and interpersonal skills.

To commence with, the main reason why it is vital to have at least one hobby is that it helps people to relax from their stressful daily routine. To elaborate, since in the contemporary world people work extra hours to maintain a good living standard, they need a hobby to relax and reduce their stress. Hobbies such as singing, dancing or solving quizzes can help them to mitigate work pressure by diverting their focus. Moreover, it can also calm down their nervous system and reduce hypertension. For example, myriad companies around the globe have recreational areas at workplaces where employee can play some games such as table tennis or chess to get break from busy work-life.

In addition to this, children and teenagers should also have at least one hobby to foster their creative skills and physical development. To expound, hobbies such as outdoor sports or gymnastics are crucial for development of stronger bones and muscles. Regular exercise can prevent prevalent health ailments such as obesity and fatigue in younger generation. Furthermore, school children should also have some hobbies such as painting or writing which can be developed into a full-time career in the future. These hobbies not only brings out their innovative side but also helps them to develop interpersonal skills and boost their confidence levels. For instance, nowadays many elementary level schools have planned leisure time programmes to foster daily life skills in students.

To recapitulate, this essay has discussed that reducing stress and anxiety levels and promoting a better mental and physical health among individuals of all age groups are the reasons why members of the society should have a bare minimum one hobby in their routine. I believe that hobbies are extremely important to lead a healthy lifestyle as they promote good mental and physical health.
