Student answer (Band 7.5)
Hobbies plays a very crucial role in everybody lives. It is being argued that it is important for children, young adults, working people and the retired to have at least one hobby. I strongly agree with this view because hobbies can reduce stress, improves mental health and help people develop new skills.
Firstly, having a hobby is an excellent way to reduce stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance. In the busy world, Children and young adults often spend several hours studying, while working people may have demanding jobs. If they spend almost all of their time in work or education, they become so tired and frustrated. Activities like painting, reading, playing sports provide an opportunity to relax and refresh the mind. For example, a student who plays football after studying may return to their studies with greater attention, motivation and concentration.
Secondly, hobbies can help people develop valuable personal and social skills. Many activities require discipline, creativity and patience. For instance, learning a musical instrument can improve concentration and confidence, whereas playing a team sport can teach cooperation and communication. These skills can be useful not only in personal life but also in education and the workplace.
Finally, hobbies can help people discover their interests and also create meaningful relationships. Practicing our hobbies can also help us to spend time with the family members with same interests which also helps fostering their relationships. In some cases, a hobby can even develop into a career or a successful business in the future.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that everyone, regardless of age or occupation, should have at least one hobby. Hobbies can provide relaxation, develop important skills and make people's lives more enjoyable and balanced.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response fully addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout the essay. Each paragraph provides relevant reasons and examples, such as the mention of football for students and musical instruments for skill development. The ideas are well-developed and logically extended, covering the specific groups mentioned in the prompt (children, young adults, working people, and the retired). The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points without introducing new information. The response is balanced and demonstrates a clear understanding of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth, using appropriate cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Finally', and 'In conclusion'. Referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct arguments. While the flow is natural, there is occasional minor repetition of structure, but this does not detract from the overall clarity of the argument. The logical sequencing of ideas ensures that the reader can follow the writer's line of reasoning without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is sufficient and appropriate for the task. The writer uses a range of topic-specific terms such as 'work-life balance', 'demanding jobs', 'discipline', and 'fostering relationships'. There is some attempt to use less common vocabulary, and the meaning is always clear. While the range is adequate, it could be further enhanced by incorporating more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions to reach a higher band. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication, and the tone remains consistently formal and academic throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over grammar, though some minor errors persist, such as subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Hobbies plays' instead of 'Hobbies play' and 'improves mental health' instead of 'improve'). Despite these occasional slips, the majority of sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. The writer shows the ability to construct complex sentences, which helps in expressing ideas clearly. The errors present are non-systematic and do not cause any difficulty for the reader.
