Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is considered imperative for people of all demographics to possess at least one hobby. I strongly support this statement and believe that hobbies are crucial activities in one's life, as they not only support cognitive and social development in younger people, but also support mental well-being in older people.
The primary reason of encouraging children and young adults in pursuing hobbies is the fact that they support cognitive and social development. When youngsters engage in hobbies that involve other people, they develop social and interpersonal skills, which contribute in their emotional growth and personality development. For instance, if a child has hobby of playing piano, partcipating in group music sessions help in their personal and social development. Hence, hobbies encourage overall development in growing children and young individuals.
Another significant factor is that hobbies act as stressbuster for working and retired people. By practising at least one hobby, adults and elderly can break the monotony of their daily lives and recharge themselves. For example, employees working 40 hours per week, when spend some time on weekends on their favourite hobby, it allows them to unwind and relax while doing one thing they are fond of, which gives them happiness. Furthermore, retired aging population can keep themselves busy while pursuing their hobbies, which prevents them from feeling isolated and depressed. Thus, pursuing hobbies are vital for workinmg and older individuals' mental well-being.
In conclusion, I believe having some hobbies are consequential in life as they assist in overall development of children and yound adults, while allowing middle-aged and elderly people to unwind from the daily boredem and maintain their sanity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, covering the importance of hobbies for children, young adults, working people, and the retired. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are well-developed with relevant examples, such as the benefits of group music sessions for children and the role of hobbies in preventing isolation for the elderly. The structure is logical, and the arguments are extended sufficiently to meet the task requirements. The response maintains a consistent focus on the prompt, providing a balanced view that supports the necessity of hobbies across different life stages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Another significant factor', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to link ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. While the flow is generally natural, some transitions could be slightly more varied to enhance the sophistication of the text, but overall, the organization is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You use some good collocations like 'cognitive and social development', 'break the monotony', and 'mental well-being'. However, there are occasional minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'partcipating' (participating), 'workinmg' (working), and 'boredem' (boredom). Additionally, the phrase 'act as stressbuster' would be more natural as 'act as a stress-buster'. While you demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, addressing these minor slips would help elevate the lexical control to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over most grammatical forms, and the meaning is always clear. However, there are some recurring errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'pursuing hobbies are vital' should be 'is vital', and 'having some hobbies are consequential' should be 'is consequential'). There are also minor punctuation and article usage errors. Despite these, the errors do not impede communication, and you demonstrate a solid grasp of complex sentence construction, which is sufficient for a band 6.5 or 7.0 level.
