Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, covering the importance of hobbies for different age groups and professional statuses. The position is clear throughout. Ideas are generally well-developed, such as the benefits of hobbies for stress relief and potential career paths. However, the development is occasionally uneven; for instance, the example of the grandfather fighting cancer is a powerful personal anecdote, but the link between the hobby and the medical outcome could be more nuanced to avoid over-generalization. Overall, the response provides a relevant and balanced discussion that meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as stress relief or professional development. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'To add on', and 'To illustrate', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. Referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with pronoun usage and sentence flow in the second paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, contributing to the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common items like 'cognitive development', 'dopamine', and 'optimistic'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'distinct themselves from work' (should be 'distance') and 'gets succeeded' (should be 'succeeds'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band. The range is sufficient to discuss the topic but lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a reasonable attempt at complex sentences, though they are sometimes marred by grammatical errors. For example, 'in a MNC their are leisure activity rooms' contains a spelling error ('their' instead of 'there') and a subject-verb agreement issue. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances where commas are missing or misused, affecting the flow. While the errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. Increased attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy.
