Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of hobbies across different age groups. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention that hobbies keep the brain active and improve physical health, the supporting evidence—such as the references to 'media in 2025' and 'government surveys in 2024'—appears invented and lacks genuine depth or logical connection to the argument. To reach a higher band, focus on providing more realistic, well-reasoned explanations rather than relying on fabricated statistics. The position is clear, but the overall development remains limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In addition to that' to link ideas. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between sentences can feel repetitive. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where 'they' is used without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on common phrases like 'keep their brain active' and 'day to day life.' There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'actively engagement' instead of 'active engagement' and 'the increase productivity' instead of 'increased productivity.' To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to cognitive development and physical well-being.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'retired people must have one hobby' is grammatically awkward in this context, and there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'it also assist them.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors limits the score.
