Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that hobbies are beneficial for all age groups. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples, such as the survey at St. Joseph College and the Indian government study, these are presented in a generic way and lack depth. The argument remains somewhat superficial, and the explanation of why hobbies are important for different demographics (children vs. working people) could be more nuanced. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the 'why' and 'how' behind your claims, rather than just stating that they are beneficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'to initiate with', 'secondly', and 'last but not the least'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical and occasionally awkward. For instance, 'to initiate with' is not standard English. Furthermore, the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed due to punctuation errors, such as spaces before commas and periods. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your punctuation is standard, as this will make your writing feel more professional and cohesive.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'hobbies' and 'people'. There are also instances of awkward word choices, such as 'addressed much happier' (should be 'reported feeling much happier') and 'in a fully manner' (should be 'in a full manner'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of 'make positive impacts', you could use 'foster personal well-being' or 'alleviate stress'. Expanding your vocabulary will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('some people states'), incorrect article usage ('in the st joseph college'), and awkward phrasing ('stress could also diminishes'). Punctuation is also a significant issue, with inconsistent spacing before punctuation marks and missing capital letters at the start of sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and standard punctuation rules.
