Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a debate going on that for kids, youngsters, working people and elders should have at least one hobby. I agree with this point as it helps people to do some productive thing in their life.

There are many benefits people can get with the help of hobbies. people who have hobbies related to sports or fitness are living very healthy lifestyle. When people get bored with their routine, they prefer to do things which they like the most such as reading, singing, dancing, painting and many more. By doing these activities, people not only get rid of their stress but also entertain them. Hobbies play vital role for developing skills in early age. When I was a kid, I stared painting because I enjoy creativity and it was interesting for me. With the help of that I recognize career towards the interior designer field.

I usually find when people are tired of their regular work life, hobby give them energy and positivity. One of my friend who is working from home spend time to play tennis on weekends and always help him to swing his mood and recharge him for further work. Moreover, doing favourite thing life in spare time is most important for adults including playing games or other outdoor activities. Reading books or articles majority of the people love to do after retirement because it helps them to explore knowledge about certain things.

In conclusion, I believe that having a hobby is necessary for everyone. It has several positive sides that give a purpose to every individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, covering children, working people, and the retired. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that hobbies help with stress and skill development, the explanations remain quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, detailed examples or deeper analysis of how hobbies specifically impact different age groups. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have better summarised the main points discussed in the body paragraphs to provide a more comprehensive overview of your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the topic. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'In conclusion', to link your thoughts. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'With the help of that I recognize career'. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, for instance, 'One of my friend... and always help him'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'productive', 'creativity', and 'recharge'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'stared painting' (instead of 'started') and 'swing his mood' (which is not a standard collocation). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to personal development and lifestyle to express your ideas with greater nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('One of my friend... spend time') and missing articles ('towards the interior designer field'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentence constructions are awkward, which occasionally forces the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately. Increasing your control over these fundamental structures will significantly improve the clarity and professionalism of your writing.
