Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by expressing a clear opinion that having a hobby is important for all age groups, including children, young adults, working people, and the retired. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning school activities and personal experiences with vacation time. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize and some arguments are repetitive, which keeps the response at Band 6.5. For instance, the discussion on stress relief and healthy routines is reiterated across multiple paragraphs without introducing new developmental angles. Nevertheless, the prompt is fully engaged with and all groups mentioned in the task are addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate different ideas, such as student benefits versus senior citizen benefits. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The student relies heavily on simple cohesive devices like 'first and foremost', 'Aditionally', and 'Furthermore', and some referencing is unclear, such as the sudden shift into a personal anecdote without smooth transitional framing ('sharing my personal experience, I would like to go on vacation...'). Furthermore, there are punctuation and capitalisation errors at the start of sentences (e.g., 'after having a stressful day', 'so it helps me') that disrupt the logical flow. These issues place the response firmly in Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'stressfree', 'professionals', 'meditation', and 'campaigns'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'childrens', 'professtional', 'eldey', 'developent', 'atleast', 'advantagies', 'vide', 'interestes', 'teahcers', 'wether', and 'maitain'. These errors show a lack of control over word formation and spelling, though they do not seriously impede communication as the meaning remains mostly clear. Because of these frequent inaccuracies, the lexical resource fits the Band 5.5 to 6.0 profile, safely meriting a 6.0 due to the functional adequacy of the vocabulary used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in articles, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Examples include 'people are more like to follow', 'hobbies plays a huge role', 'hobbies can also helpfull', and multiple instances of sentences starting with lowercase letters following periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 6. The control over grammar is somewhat patchy, making Band 5.5 a fair and accurate reflection of the current level of grammatical accuracy.
