Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hobbies are crucial for every age group. In my opinion it is necessary to have at least one hobby that you like because it unwinds yourself from the exterior world. In addition to this, we are tend to give our best to the habits we like, which sometimes become a profession for many.
In this fast paced world, every human being regardless of what age group they belong to should have atleast one hobby because it's a best way to escape from the the stressful world we are living in. One of many advantages of having a hobby is you forget about your work pressure, family issues or any other bothersome situation and it also gives a sense of contentment. Not only that, you get time for yourself which can reduce the chances of depression later in life because you will always have one thing to do that you makes you happy. For example, in a recent survey in Canada two groups of people were anylased, one having no hobby and other having a hobby such as painting or creating sculptures. The later group showed great level of happiness and relief while the other was suffering in anxiety.
Sometimes hobbies can be converted to profession because we tend to give our best to the things that we are fond of as it is directly connected to the sense of contentment we get after doing it. Therefore, the quality of work a hobby can give, ocassionally leads people to excel career wise. For example, Picasso is the famous artist used to do his paintings as a hobby later on his paintings were internationally recognised and he got worldwide acknowlegement.
To conclude, having a hobby is the foremost important thing in everyones life. The reason being, it not only helps you to stay calm and happy but it is something one can look forward to make as a career choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on why hobbies are important for people of all age groups, including children, young adults, working people, and the retired. The ideas are well developed with relevant supporting points, such as stress relief, prevention of depression, and the potential to turn a hobby into a professional career. The student extends their points effectively, providing a concrete example regarding a Canadian survey and referencing the famous artist Picasso to illustrate how hobbies can lead to professional excellence. Although some arguments could be explored in even greater depth, the overall coverage is solid, demonstrating a clear and coherent line of argument throughout the essay, aligning comfortably with a Band 7 performance for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct facets of the prompt, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to connect ideas, such as 'In addition to this', 'Not only that', and 'Therefore'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'The later group' instead of 'The latter group'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the flow of arguments. While the progression is clear and easy to follow, minor mechanical flaws in transitional phrasing prevent the score from reaching a higher band, making Band 7 an accurate reflection of the student's organizational skills.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for flexibility and precision, utilizing less common items such as 'bothersome situation', 'contentment', and 'internationally recognised'. There are, however, a few lexical and spelling errors that surface throughout the text, including 'anylased' instead of 'analysed', 'ocassionally' instead of 'occasionally', and 'acknowlegement' instead of 'acknowledgement'. Despite these spelling slips and occasional slight awkwardness in word collocation, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning clearly without impeding communication, representing a standard typical of Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with complex structures like 'Not only that, you get time for yourself which can reduce the chances of depression...' However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing present in the text, such as 'it unwinds yourself', 'we are tend to give', 'atleast', and 'the famous artist used to do'. These errors occasionally draw attention, but they do not severely impede communication. The control of grammar shows a mixture of accurate complex sentences alongside frequent minor slips, placing the response securely in the Band 6 category.
