Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays many people both whether adults and younger ones should indulge themselves in at least one hobby. From this perspective, I believe it is completely a very good way to keep themselves busy.

On the one hand, many people do not perform and take part in interesting activities. Because of technology usage habits people may not refrain from this thing, and do not make a habit of any hobby. For example, excessive technology usage among various people, they often do not realize even to spend some time with their family and children. As a result, their children may not be able to get attachment with their parents.

On the other hand, if children or elders won't perform any activity. They may feel lethargic which really affects their overall development especially among young children. For example, if a children often wakes up early in the morning for school days, just before the breakfast it's good to go for a walk in the park to feel physically fit. Also parents can participate in this regular activity. Hence, this step will make huge progress in their mental health.

In my opinion, I believe it's a really good initiative to have a proper routine of a particular hobby, as this balanced approach is beneficial for elders as well as children to maintain good relations.

In conclusion, people often neglect the main purpose of life because of the technology which may have negative consequences on their well-being. But developing proper hobby while keeping apart from electronic devices, may benefit them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of hobbies for different age groups, particularly focusing on the negative impacts of excessive technology usage and the physical and mental health benefits of hobbies. The writer takes a clear, consistent position that having hobbies is beneficial. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly regarding the dangers of screen time and general statements about well-being. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the arguments would benefit from more varied examples and deeper elaboration. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 6, where relevant ideas are presented but some are under-developed or repetitive.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects of the topic, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as On the one hand, On the other hand, and In conclusion are used to structure the text, though some cohesive devices feel mechanical or are used inappropriately, such as beginning sentences with Because or starting a sentence with a dependent clause fragment like 'For example, if a children often wakes up early...'. Paragraphing is present, but the overall progression of ideas sometimes feels disjointed due to grammatical clumsiness within sentences. Referencing is mostly clear, but the mechanical nature of the cohesion places this text firmly in the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting phrases like 'indulge themselves', 'excessive technology usage', 'lethargic', and 'overall development'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'many people do not perform and take part' and 'get attachment with their parents'. Additionally, phrasing like 'developing proper hobby' lacks necessary articles. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points without impeding communication, the frequency of lexical inaccuracies prevents the score from reaching a Band 7. It sits comfortably at Band 6, demonstrating an adequate range that attempts less common vocabulary with some lack of precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional forms such as 'if children or elders won't perform any activity'. However, grammatical accuracy is a weak point, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('if a children often wakes up'), tense usage ('won't perform' instead of don't perform), and missing articles ('a proper hobby', 'huge progress in their mental health'). Punctuation errors also occur, such as sentence fragments ('Because of technology usage habits people may not refrain from this thing, and do not make a habit of any hobby.'). Although communication is rarely completely impeded, these frequent errors across both simple and complex forms align the essay with Band 5.
