Student answer (Band 6.5)
Having a minimum of one hobby is crucial for any individuals of all age. In my opinion, I believe that having hobby is necessary because it helps in distraction from daily routine and might become a income factor.
Firstly, an hobby can helps us get away with a daily boring routine. Many people of different ages have their own form of boredom in everyday life. For example, children and young adults might be tired after learning different subjects in schools and universities, working professional may fell fatigue after working for whole day at work places and retired people are already tired after going through everything in life. If they utilise atleast one hobby as an escape aspect from this boredom, they can relax and do better in their daily activities such as children and young adults perform better in their academics, adults do their job with more enthusiasm and old retired people enjoy their rest of the life.
Secondly, some people have a potential to turn their one favourite hobby to an paying job. At first they start as a hobby and then they eventually get better by spending more time on it. One classic example is painting, some people start it as a leisure activity and discovers themselves that they are good at it, then over the period of time they masters it and changes to an career opportunity. By doing this, they are not only happy because they are doing what they likes to do in free time, but also they can earn money from doing that. This way an hobby will become a bread-winner for their family.
In conclusion, I think that having atleast one hobby is essential in everyone's life because it helps us to relax from stressful days and can help to become a profession that make money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, exploring both why hobbies are necessary for people across different life stages to escape daily routines and how they can be turned into a profession. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as children and adults finding relief from fatigue and hobbies like painting evolving into career opportunities. While the development tends to be somewhat general, it effectively covers the central theme of the prompt. This performance aligns well with the requirements for a Band 6.5 or Band 7, and is best represented by Band 6.5 as some supporting arguments are slightly repetitive or under-developed in terms of depth, though all aspects of the task are addressed adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs supporting distinct arguments, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, although referencing is sometimes slightly mechanical (e.g., 'By doing this...'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the distinct ideas of stress relief and financial potential. The progression of ideas is generally clear, allowing the reader to follow the writer's line of thought easily. However, occasional awkward transitions and minor cohesion slips prevent it from reaching a higher band. Overall, the organisational structure is coherent and demonstrates solid control over text flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and collocations such as 'daily routine', 'career opportunity', and 'bread-winner'. However, there are noticeable word choice and morphological errors throughout the text, including 'any individuals of all age' instead of 'all ages', 'an hobby' instead of 'a hobby', 'working professional may fell fatigue' instead of 'feel fatigued', and 'an paying job' instead of 'a paying job'. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication. The flexibility and precision remain at a level consistent with Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses (e.g., 'If they utilise atleast one hobby...', 'some people start it as a leisure activity and discovers themselves that they are good at it'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and slips, particularly with subject-verb agreement and articles, such as 'an hobby can helps', 'discovers themselves', 'masters it and changes to an career', and 'what they likes'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical inaccuracies occur with enough frequency to disrupt the flow of complex sentences. The control over grammar represents a solid Band 6 performance.
