Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's fast-paced world, individuals are pre-occupied with their day-to-day tasks so, it is crucial to have at least one personal interest for all age groups. In my opinion having a hobby is of utmost necessity for both mental and physical well being of the people. In this essay I will cast a light on varies reasons to support my view.

To begin with, my first and foremost reason is that nowadays almost all the family members are employed for full-time or part time jobs just to manage their daily expenses and youngsters are usually busy with their studies for longer hours as a result of exceeding competition in the academic sector. So when people keep on living their same routine which is necessity not a passion, that makes them exhausted mentally and physically with time, which will eventually result into poor performance at work and studies. In addition to this, when people try something different than their daily routine it gives them a feeling of contentment and revitalize their mind and body, which will eventually lead to a motivation to start next day with a positive mindset and increased productivity at work and classroom

Moreover, my last but not least reason is that there are times when people keep on trying something boring for years without actually liking it but they just have to continue showing up at work for the sake of daily bread and butter but there is no career growth or job satisfaction at all. Then one day a person tried something new which they have always been passionate about and turned that into a full time career and gained immensed amount of success in life, therefore having a hobby might result into something big and unexpected success one day. For instance, there are many famous business owners who started their career from a bare hobby and today they are well known among world's top business models. One of them is Netflix it was started by a guy who was fond of watching movies then he used to collect DVD then he started to rent those DVD's to his classmates and today Netflix became a great platfom to watch latest movies and webseries with millions of users.

To recapitulate, I inferred that it is always a great idea to foster at least one personal interest other than daily routine just refresh things and start your working day with enthusiasm after a day off as no body knows that one little hobby can change your entire future into something unbelievable miracle.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that hobbies are a necessity for all age groups, supporting this view with reasons and examples. The ideas are generally well extended, discussing both the psychological relief from daily routines and the potential for a hobby to evolve into a successful career, as seen in the Netflix example. However, the development in the third body paragraph wanders slightly into a broader discussion about career dissatisfaction before circling back to hobbies. Overall, the prompt is successfully tackled, and the position is sustained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To recapitulate' are employed to guide the reader through the arguments. However, referencing and sentence linking are occasionally faulty or run-on, such as in the opening sentence ('tasks so, it is crucial') and long, unpunctuated clauses in the body paragraphs. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but paragraph internal cohesion would benefit from sharper punctuation and clearer transition signals.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'fast-paced world', 'pre-occupied', 'contentment', and 'revitalize'. There are, however, some noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'varies reasons' instead of 'various reasons', 'immensed amount', and treating Netflix as a 'business model' rather than a company. Despite these occasional errors, the meaning is always clear and communication is not impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional ideas. However, the essay suffers from punctuation issues, particularly run-on sentences and comma splices, as seen in 'individuals are pre-occupied with their day-to-day tasks so, it is crucial'. There are also minor grammatical errors such as missing articles ('for full-time or part time jobs', 'into a full time career') and subject-verb agreement slips ('a person tried... which they have'). The majority of simple sentences are accurate, but complex structures frequently contain minor errors.
