Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that each and every human being despite of age, must pursue a favourite leisure activity. I personally believe that, this statement has weightage as it gives enjoyment during free time instead of getting bored and also provide someone with an oppurtunity to improve side skill. I would like to elaborate it more with my opinion about the same.

Firstly, having a hobby means a source of enjoying free time in productive manners. This way helps an individual to cut on boredom. For Instance, if someone likes to listen to music or watching movies can simultaneously get pleasure and a gateway of passing time. For adults and working individuals such things help to relax at workplace as well.

Secondly, It may have a chance for someone to work on a side skill and getting better in a particular activity they like to do. If someone like to do story writting as a hobby or creating instrumental beats can help them to live their dream on side along with fulfilling life priorities, for example. It has high scope for retired ones to help them be busy and to get entertained.

In my point of view, hobbies can play a vital role for all age groups and can be an extraordinary development.

Overall, every person should have atleast one such activity to do as per their taste irrespective of age numbers, in their spare time to stay productive and as well as to get entertained.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing the importance of hobbies across different age groups such as children, adults, and retirees. A clear personal position is presented in the introduction and maintained throughout. Ideas are introduced and supported with examples, such as listening to music or story writing. However, the development in body paragraphs remains somewhat general and repetitive, and the text falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 246 words. This minor length penalty prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but the arguments could be extended further for greater depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and is divided into logical paragraphs, using transition markers such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. However, paragraphing and cohesive devices can feel somewhat mechanical. For instance, the concluding sections are fragmented into very short single-sentence paragraphs, which detracts from the overall progression of the essay. Referencing and linking could be handled more smoothly. Despite these structural flaws, the central ideas are clear, and the overall flow remains easy to follow for the reader, fitting the Band 6 descriptors well.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The writer attempts to use some less common vocabulary such as 'weightage', 'productive manners', and 'gateway of passing time'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'despite of age' (instead of 'regardless of age' or 'despite age'), 'oppurtunity' (spelling error), and 'retired ones' (better phrased as 'retirees' or 'retired individuals'). Vocabulary range is adequate for communicating basic ideas, but inaccuracies in word choice and spelling prevent the response from achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative structures (e.g., 'If someone likes to listen to music or watching movies...'). However, grammatical errors are frequent. There are issues with preposition usage ('despite of'), subject-verb agreement and parallelism ('listen to music or watching movies'), and punctuation. For example, the sentence 'Secondly, It may have a chance...' contains an unnecessary capitalization and an awkward passive construction. While communication is not severely impeded, the frequency of errors places this in the Band 5.5 to 6 range.
