Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by expressing a clear position regarding the importance of hobbies for people of all ages. The writer supports their opinion with reasons and examples, such as stress management and the potential for career development or side income. However, some ideas are underdeveloped and repetitive. For instance, the example of the design engineer who loves farming is somewhat abrupt, and the arguments regarding stress and income overlap significantly between body paragraphs. This places the performance solidly at Band 6, as the task is addressed and relevant ideas are presented, but some parts lack full extension and clarity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical and repetitive. The use of cohesive devices is basic and occasionally faulty, such as 'To begin with, a significantly helpful to manage stress' which contains a grammatical gap, and repetitive transitional phrases like 'For example' and 'Therefore'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'what the most things love to do'. These issues prevent the essay from achieving a higher band, making Band 6 an accurate reflection of the coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'pivotal role', 'side income', and 'software engineer'. However, there are frequent word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, including 'it also play pivotal role', 'a significantly helpful', 'you can forgot your stress', and the repeated spelling and lexical errors for the word hobby ('hoddy'). While these inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ability to structure sentences with subordinate clauses, such as 'If you have at least one hobby, you can forgot your stress by doing what you like the most.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms, tense consistency, and missing articles or copular verbs (e.g., 'not only it's helpful', 'a significantly helpful to manage', 'he make side income', and 'playing compatetive games'). Because these frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the majority of sentences from being error-free, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
