Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is no doubt that hobbies play an important role in all of our lives. Every person of any generation must have atleast one hobby which they can perform in their idle time. In my perspective, it is very general to have one or more than one tohave a hobby.

To commence with, hobbies my vary person to peson like one might have the hobby of book reading whle the other may have of dancing, painting and more but what important is that whether you are following up with your hobbies or not. For example, while travelling through a train, despite of sitting idle a person having the hobby of reading books can take along a book of his choice and read it. Advantages to this may include improvement in vocabulary, will learn new words , reduces stress, optimisation free time and many more. One may have the hobby of painting, whenever te person gets free with work he/she may indulge in painting because passion and hobby being 2 different things passion is what you folow for the career and hobby is what provides you happiness. their are so many advantages of having a hobby or more than one. Doing what you love, is what self love is. It helps in reducing stress, gain knowledge, learning new things, gain knowledge, helpsin escaping the world for some time. It also helps one to spend quality time with themselves while being poductive rather than sitting idle.

in despite of that, people may forget about their other crucial tasks of the day, while fllowing up with their hobbies. They may indulge in their hobbies and start ignoring others. They will not socialise with other people. One thing that people should take into account is that hobbies are what they should be doing in their free time so that, other duties or responsiblities should not be disturbed or ignored.

conclusively, hobbies are important for everyone whether adults, working people, retired ones. They keep us busy , give happiness and a little escape from the world where you can spend some qualty time with yourself and do what you love.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing the importance of hobbies for various age groups, including children, young adults, working people, and the retired. The student presents a clear position that having hobbies is beneficial for everyone and supports this stance with relevant arguments, such as stress reduction, self-love, and productivity. However, some ideas are repetitive, and the development of examples tends to be slightly superficial, as seen in the train travel example where points like vocabulary improvement and learning new words are listed rather than fully expanded. Despite these minor limitations, the main prompt is covered adequately, warranting a solid Band 6.5 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing advantages and potential drawbacks, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, though paragraph boundaries and internal flow can feel a bit disjointed due to dense blocks of text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'For example', and 'conclusively', but referencing and transitions are occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'in despite of that' instead of 'Despite this'. Logical progression is sometimes hindered by repetitiveness and run-on sentences, but overall, the structure remains understandable throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'optimisation', 'indulge', and 'productive'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'atleast', 'peson', 'whle', 'te person', 'folow', and 'poductive'. There are also frequent awkward collocations and morphological errors, such as 'gain knowledge' repeated twice in close succession and 'in despite of that'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency prevents the writer from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over multi-clause structures such as 'whenever te person gets free with work he/she may indulge in painting because passion and hobby being 2 different things...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, missing articles, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'their are so many advantages', 'hobbies my vary person to peson'). Run-on sentences and punctuation omissions (such as missing spaces after commas and periods) are common, which restricts the overall grammatical score to a 5.0.
