Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that having at least one hobby helps individuals become creative and productive. The writer attempts to cover multiple age groups mentioned in the prompt, such as kids, college students, and retired people, which demonstrates an effort to address all parts of the task. However, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed and lack extension. For instance, the example of the college student working with mechanical things is disjointed and drifts into vague descriptions rather than fully supporting the argument. Similarly, the paragraph regarding older people introduces interesting points about technology and retirement, but the logic is difficult to follow. Consequently, the task achievement aligns best with Band 5.5, as the ideas are presented with a clear position, but the development is limited and occasionally confusing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall arrangement with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or mechanical, such as the abrupt shifts using phrases like 'To illustrate this, a collage students, who has a hobby...' and 'Moreover, in some generation like mostly old people...'. Referencing is also unclear at times, making it difficult to follow the relationships between ideas. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires improvement. This performance reflects Band 5.0, where there is some organization and paragraphing, but overall progression is hindered by inadequate or awkward cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited, minimally adequate range of vocabulary for this task. There are several noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'relaetd' for related, 'individauls' for individuals, 'atlist' for at least, 'anykind' for any kind, 'collage' for college, 'oppotunity' for opportunity, 'advance' for advanced, 're' for are, 'mostely' for mostly, and 'somethings' for something. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'productivity' and 'advancement of technology', the high frequency of basic lexical and spelling errors causes some difficulty for the reader and restricts the lexical score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty and fraught with grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('hobbies are the thing which is not relaetd', 'helps citizens to be', 'old people have hobbies... they re curious'), missing articles ('If person has a anykind'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation and sentence boundaries also need attention, as seen in run-on sentences like 'To illustrate this, a collage students, who has a hobby to work with mechanic and electric things, that's why he is making automotive models.' These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, placing this response firmly at Band 5.0.
