Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by giving a clear opinion that having a hobby is important for people of all ages, citing reasons such as reducing stress, socialising, and maintaining health. The student attempts to develop ideas, such as mentioning gym and video games, but some parts are repetitive and under-developed, relying on sweeping generalisations rather than deep exploration. The position is stated, though structural issues in the introduction initially obscure clarity. Overall, it satisfies the requirements for Band 6 because it directly addresses the prompt and presents relevant ideas, though the depth of support is somewhat limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response attempts a clear logical organisation, using paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, body points, and a brief conclusion. However, cohesive devices are often mechanical or misused, such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'In last i would say'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall progression feels slightly disjointed due to run-on sentences and a lack of smooth transitions between ideas. Paragraphing is present and used to group related concepts, but the intrusive and faulty use of cohesive links places this writing firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas about hobbies, stress, and daily schedules. However, there is a very limited range of less common lexical items, and frequent spelling errors ('bussiness', 'impotant', 'thier', 'becasue', 'now days', 'nunber', 'sapare', 'keaping', 'utilised') and word choice inaccuracies ('keep one hobby' instead of 'have a hobby') restrict the score. While the vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the writer's meaning, errors in spelling and collocation occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, aligning with Band 5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the life is in the modern era is so stressful', 'the age nunber is doesnt matter'), missing articles, and incorrect prepositions ('do the gym'). Many sentences contain multiple structural errors or lack punctuation clarity ('people have so much busy in their working schedule eg job and personal bussiness'). Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the response earns a 5.0 for grammar.
