Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing why having a hobby is important for different age groups, ranging from children to the retired. A clear position is established in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as yoga for mental peace and educational apps for toddlers. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize slightly, and certain examples, like 'gossiping' for working people, could be explored more deeply to reach higher levels of development. Overall, the prompt is well-covered, aligning with the Band 7 criteria where all parts are addressed with a clear position and supported ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is divided into distinct paragraphs that address different facets of the prompt, such as physical and mental benefits. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, with transition words like 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'Consequently'. However, some cohesive links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas logically, but referencing between sentences occasionally feels abrupt, keeping the cohesion at a solid Band 6.5 to 7 level. On balance, the clear logical progression secures a Band 7.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases such as 'monotonous', 'contemporary world', and 'recreational activities' show an attempt to use less common lexical items. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'drive force' instead of 'driving force', 'binge watched shows' instead of 'binge-watching shows', and 'attention on themselves' instead of 'focus on themselves'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the vocabulary score from reaching higher bands. The lexical resource sits comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'In this contemporary world when everyone is busy in their work...'. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors that affect accuracy, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Yoga and Meditation gives' and 'Adapting hobbies... have', as well as missing prepositions and awkward phrasing like 'busy in their work' instead of 'busy with their work'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they persist throughout the text, making Band 6 the most accurate descriptor for grammatical range and accuracy.
