Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the importance of having a hobby across different life stages and providing a clear personal opinion. The student introduces the essay by stating that hobbies help individuals stay tuned to their world and develops main ideas regarding changes in hobbies over time, stress relief for working adults, and the potential to turn a hobby into a career, citing the example of cricketer Virat Kohli. While the ideas are relevant and supported with examples, some points tend to be slightly over-generalized or underdeveloped, aligning closely with a Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile. The stance is maintained throughout the essay, fulfilling the core requirements of Task Achievement effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a clear logical organisation with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate main ideas, such as changing hobbies over time and turning a hobby into a career. Cohesive devices are employed, including phrases like 'To start with', 'Moreover', and 'To add more', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional minor logical links between sentences could be smoothed out for a higher band. Overall, the arrangement provides a coherent framework that is easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'responsibilities', 'challenges', and 'successful'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'individulas' instead of individuals, 'tunned' instead of tuned, 'fule' instead of fuel, 'carrer' instead of career, and 'crickter' instead of cricketer. Despite these lexical inaccuracies, communication is not impeded as the meaning remains clear. These patterns of errors and the mix of adequate vocabulary alongside some spelling lapses place this response firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting complex forms such as 'However, in this fast pace world people struggle to pursue their hobbies but I believe...' and conditional or concessive clauses. However, frequent grammatical and mechanical errors are present, including verb tense inconsistencies ('our hobbies gets change'), missing articles, and punctuation slips. For example, sentences like 'For example, working women have many other task to finish after work but if she do what she likes to do can help as fule for the othre tasks' exhibit noticeable grammatical strain and agreement issues. These errors occasionally cause some minor difficulty for the reader, reflecting a Band 5.5 standard.
