Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this mdern era, having atleast single interest is necessary for everyone such as toddlers, young people and retired person. According to my opinion, Having hobby is great but, sometime for an individuals hobbies will be change based on the age or time.

To begin with, around the age of 15, children have multiple hobbies such as reading and singing because, they are not familier with some other trends like mobile games or gymnasium. Once they grow up and learn and explore various things, by this way sometimes their hobbie are getting change or addition of new hobbies. Additionally, at a time of retirement, seniors may leave their interest in past and, for that major contributing factor is age. For instance, a survey from long term care illustrates that 75% of the seniors likes to play football, driving a car and singing a song but, due to age and some disabilities no one can follow their intrest but they can enjoy it by watchig in TV or by discuss with friends. By this way, they could enjoy their life some timr share their knowladge to adults because of their experience.

On the other hand, some hobbies are nice for the health such as gymnasium and yoga. It gives numerous health benefiths and fitness. In recent years, a significant number of young adults join physical activity classes to gain their health in good way and, make it best hobby for their life. For example, Health Canada artical demonstrate that 30% seniors are very healthy and fit in their daily routine just because of their one hobby - gymnessium.

Taking everything into an account, I believe having atleast one hobby is too good and, It also helps to make an individual life batter.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that having a hobby is beneficial across different life stages, supporting this with examples such as senior citizens and young adults. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies on sweeping or inaccurate generalisations, such as claiming 75% of seniors like to play football or that 30% of seniors stay fit solely due to a gym hobby. While all demographic groups mentioned in the prompt (children, young adults, working people, and the retired) are touched upon, the discussion of working people is very thin. These tendencies place the response at a Band 6, where the task is addressed and relevant ideas are presented, but some points remain under-developed or lack strong logical backing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is generally coherent with an overall logical arrangement, dividing ideas into introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. However, cohesion at the sentence level is frequently faulty or mechanical, with awkward transitional phrases like 'by this way', 'at a time of retirement', and 'Taking everything into an account'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as pronoun use referring back to plural or singular nouns ambiguously. These issues prevent the text from achieving a higher band, making Band 6 a fair evaluation where overall progression is present but cohesive devices are sometimes clumsy or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related words such as 'toddlers', 'retirement', 'disabilities', and 'physical activity classes'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the essay, including 'mdern' for modern, 'atleast' for at least, 'familier' for familiar, 'hobbie'/'hobies' for hobbies, 'artical' for article, 'gymnessium' for gymnasium, and 'batter' for better. Furthermore, collocation is occasionally weak, such as 'gain their health in good way'. Because these errors do not impede overall communication but consistently affect precision, the response aligns well with the Band 5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-like structures, which shows an ambition for grammatical range. However, control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'seniors likes', 'hobbies will be change', 'intrest'), missing articles ('on TV', 'in past'), and awkward prepositions or tense choices. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning and the text remains readable, they are frequent enough to detract from grammatical accuracy, making a Band 5 score appropriate.
