Student answer (Band 4.5)

Young children, adults, employed people and the retired elders must have atleast one hobby because hobby brings pleasure and practice in life. In my opinion, hobbies also contribute in a healthy living style.

The primary cause to priortize hobbies is pleasure. The reason behind this is it keeps us busy and avoid overthinking. happy mood is the cause behind high levels of dopamine, which not only promotes white blood cells, but also improves hormonal health.

Another reason to have a hobby is enhance skills and career oportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response only partially addresses the prompt. While the writer states an opinion in the introduction that hobbies contribute to a healthy living style and mentions pleasure and skill enhancement, the ideas are severely under-developed. Furthermore, the response falls drastically short of the required 250-word minimum, containing only 87 words. This under-length severely limits the writer's ability to fully extend and support ideas for all age groups mentioned in the prompt, resulting in a low band score under Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text shows some basic organizational structure with an introduction and separate body paragraphs. However, the overall progression is heavily disrupted by the extremely short length of the response, with the third body paragraph consisting of only a single incomplete sentence ('Another reason to have a hobby is enhance skills and career oportunities.'). Cohesive devices are minimal, and paragraphing is inadequate due to the lack of fully developed supporting details and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, such as 'hobby', 'pleasure', and 'life'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'atleast' (at least), 'priortize' (prioritize), 'oportunities' (opportunities), and the awkward collocation 'healthy living style' instead of 'healthy lifestyle'. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the few sentences produced, but errors and limited variety constrain the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The reason behind this is it keeps us busy and avoid overthinking.' However, there are grammatical inaccuracies like 'avoid' instead of 'avoids', missing prepositions, and incomplete structures. The third paragraph is a fragment rather than a complete sentence ('Another reason to have a hobby is enhance skills...'). Control over grammar is inconsistent, though basic communication is generally maintained.
